Lately I’ve been adding more color to my Hobonichi journal with colored watercolor pencils, which made me realize I should bring out my regular watercolors as well. It’s so great how remarkably well the Tomoe River paper handles watercolor paint.

Yuzu has had a favorite box she likes to curl up in for a while now, but Anko hasn’t had one of her own. She tried this one out for a bit, but I think it was still a little too small. We’ll find one someday!

We had a delicious lunch at the Korean BBQ spot near our house today. The food was really good, and we ended up ordering way too much – as per usual! – but the leftovers will definitely be yummy. Since I wasn’t driving, I had half a bottle of soju, which turned out to be super potent. Thankfully we were able to bring the rest of the bottle home to finish up later.

It took some time to figure out how I wanted to draw the Inktober prompt “Ogre”. I ended up going with this version, styled like the fantasy maps I’ve been really into lately. Inktober is simple in theory, but pretty tough in practice, and I’m falling a little behind. Hopefully I can catch up over the weekend!

I bought this new TTArtisan 23mm f/1.4 lens for my Fujifilm cameras. I had been missing the 23mm field of view (~35mm full-frame equivalent) from my old X100T days, so I decided to test this one out. Manual focus is no problem for me, and I love that the f/1.4 maximum aperture lets in plenty of light and renders a lovely shallow depth of field. The photo above was taken at roughly f/1.8, so there’s even more blur available wide open. My 27mm and 35mm lenses are still favorites, but for under $100 USD, this TTArtisan 23mm is hard to beat!

To add some color to my Hobonichi sketches, I made the switch from highlighters to a set of Staedtler watercolor pencils. While they look great used dry like standard colored pencils, they get really fun when you add water with a brush to blend the colors together. Really neat set!

Since I go through so much glue tape pasting photos into my Hobonichi, I switched to a Tombow MONO tape runner for its higher capacity and cheap refills. What’s funny is that the refill is practically the exact same size as the full unit. At least we’re saving a tiny bit of plastic, right?
