This summer, our Scotch Bonnet and Jalapeño plants have been giving us lots of peppers to eat. In fact there are too many for us, so I have been drying a lot of them out to use as pepper flakes. I am also going to try to make some chili crisp oil. I’ve found a few recipes that look good. We’ll see how it goes!

Our friend brought us the most delicious temaki sushi to help out while Mariko recovers from her hip surgery. And as a total surprise, she showed up with taiyaki too! Everything was so yummy, we felt so taken care of.

A few months ago I brought some plumeria clippings back from my parents’ yard in California. They’ve really started taking off now! Soon I’ll need to move them into bigger containers, but I don’t want to go too big since they’ll have to come indoors for winter. So now I’m stuck wondering, what’s the smallest pot size I can get away with? Hmm, something to figure out.

It’s very hot these days (as it is everywhere it seems) so I’ve been going for my run-walks in the evening. Right around sunset seems to be the optimal time for me. I’m sure it’s because because the sky and shadows look particularly nice.

Most of my reading happens on my Kindle or through Libby these days. But my office desk has its own little collection, the books I like to flip through from time to time. Manga, illustration, sketchbooks, that kind of thing. Just the fun stuff I can pick up for five minutes and put back down.

While making coffee today, I spotted the light hitting Piplup’s handlebars. The highlighting along the edges was particularly nice.

Piplup and I got out for a ride this afternoon. It’s been a while since the two of us hit the bike path together. Temps were up in the 90s and the sun was beating down hard, but the path was nearly empty and a nice breeze kept things pleasant. Good to be back in the saddle.

I picked up a little tripod from Ulanzi for my iPhone. I’ve been wanting to make more videos, and I actually borrowed Mariko’s model first to try it out. She uses hers constantly though, so I finally grabbed one of my own. Turns out it’s just as handy as I hoped, folds up small and holds the phone steady without any fuss. I love it!
