This weekend I watched a few movies, including the three-movie What a Wonderful Family! series. The movies feature a talented ensemble cast, and the stories revolve around the everyday challenges a large family in Japan might face. There were some laugh-out-loud moments, but it was mostly interesting to me because I am attracted to slice-of-life stories, specifically Japanese family life.
We haven’t been to the movie theater in a long time now because of COVID-19, and I really miss it. I can’t wait to go back once things become safer!
By the way, you can check out the movies I’ve watched and books I’ve read (with rating) in 2020 here.
We had a yummy salmon donburi for dinner this evening, but I though the simple salad we had was a stand-out. It was lettuce with a sesame oil and salt dressing, and was so tasty. The simplicity was refreshing! I loved it. I could have gone for another plate, but unfortunately, there was only one serving per person. Oh well, there’s always next time!😀
I hope you had a great day.
Today we had shrimp tacos for dinner, and while I was taking a photo, Mariko said that the pot of beans (which I usually put in a bowl) was ugly and shouldn’t be in the picture. While I don’t disagree, I thought this was a funny photo of her literally pointing it out. Also, we have some Peanuts glasses that have been in use for years, but those shouldn’t be on the table for the pre-eating photo session. Double-foul! 😆
Anyways, the food was delicious. ❤️🌮 We also enjoyed a spicy diced Serrano pepper from the garden too!
こんばんは。How’s it going?
Tonight we had another Japanese comfort food: nikujaga / 肉じゃが. It’s a beef and potato dish, in a semi-sweet broth. Mariko added a can of quail eggs to the dish and it was excellent!
We also enjoyed eggplant which was grown in our friends’ garden. So delicious. Of course the meal was rounded out with miso soup and steamed rice. I could eat nikujaga every day, it’s so yummy. 😄
I hope you had a great day!
