Made chili over rice for dinner tonight, and I topped it with a fried egg, cheese, jalapeño, serrano, crema Mexicana, and a good hit of Valentina. So good.

We went out tonight for some Tex-Mex at Mama Betty’s. I ordered the Plato Cocinero — beef enchiladas topped with tender beef fajita strips and a sunny side up egg. Really good. We started with queso flameado, which was a great way to kick things off. Not the healthiest meal — everything was a little salty and greasy — but it’s a treat we don’t indulge in very often, and it hit the spot.

A couple of friends told me to grab the sweet corn Turtle Chips from H-Mart, so I finally did. Good call, friends. The shape gives them this really satisfying crunch, and the flavor is spot-on – sweet corn, a little creamy, like corn soup in chip form. Excellent!

Mariko made a turmeric curry potato salad to go with gyoza tonight, and it was so good. Such a colorful and delicious combo!

Tonight we hit up Tian Tian Chinese restaurant with friends and family, and what started as dinner turned into a full-on feast. We kicked things off with dim sum and kept going with Peking duck, fried whole fish, and eel. Every dish was so good. By the end of the meal we were completely stuffed and nobody was complaining. It’s always nice to get everyone together around a table like that.

This Yebisu beer was a gift from a friend, and I have to say, it really shines when it’s ice cold. It’s the perfect way to close out a long day of work. Cheers!

This evening I made a pot of Shin Ramyun with my go-to upgrades. With about two minutes left on the timer, I drop an egg into the pot. After I turn off the flame, I add a little sesame oil and lay a slice of American cheese on top. That’s my baseline. Tonight though, we had shrimp tempura from Costco, so I threw two pieces on top of everything. It was so good. I need to make sure we always have that stuff in the freezer.

There is nothing better than second-day curry. The flavors always deepen overnight, and today’s bowl did not disappoint.

There’s a great song by Blur called Coffee and TV, but tonight I had my own version: Curry and TV. The hardest part of the evening was picking what to watch from my “Continue Watching” queue. I ended up going with Gimbap and Onigiri followed by Tokyo Love Story. Good times!

Oh, and that bottom photo? That’s the scene of the crime. I’m pretty sure Anko was licking the ladle and knocked it right onto the floor!
