Tonight I took Kiki, my 2007 BMW F650 GS, out for a relaxed ride around the neighborhood. We rolled down some of the same streets I used to ride on my Supercub many years ago, and the nostalgia factor was very high. The neighborhood has changed quite a bit since then, but cruising through it on two wheels still feels just as good. And this time of year makes it even better. Riding past all the glowing holiday lights was fantastic.

Kiki, my 2007 BMW F650 GS, and I went out for a quick spin to fuel up. It wasn’t a long ride, but it felt great to zip around the neighborhood for a bit. Even short rides always put me in a good mood!

Later in the afternoon, my son and I went to see Tron: Ares, which had plenty of awesome motorcycle scenes – both real ones and the new+classic light-cycles. It was such a cool movie! The original Tron was one of my favorite films growing up, so it was a real treat to see those old-school computer graphics make a return for a few scenes.

Today I went motorcycle shopping with my friend. We visited three shops and checked out a bunch of Honda mini-motos. We both really liked the Honda Groms, and that looks like a strong contender for his first bike. I had fun looking at the Triumphs too. Out of all the motorcycles, the Triumph Speed Twin 900 felt like the best fit for me. I love the modern classic design, the seat height and ergonomics, and that signature Triumph feel. I definitely want to get one someday!

Here’s my custom build, with windscreen, grab rails for luggage, knee pads, and even lower seat. (the regular one is just fine though)

Today I went motorcycle shopping with a friend and had the chance to sit on what I hope will be my next bike: the Triumph Speed Twin 900 in Aluminum Silver. It is absolutely stunning. The design is sleek, and the ergonomics felt just right for my build.

I still love my current motorbike, Kiki, but I’ve been thinking about upgrading to something more modern and better suited for road riding. The Triumph Speed Twin 900 checks every box I’ve been looking for. It offers more power, a comfortable seat height, a neutral riding position, and a look that I’d be proud to show off.

This bike feels like the perfect fit for the next chapter of my riding journey. Someday, she will be mine. 😄

This evening, my friend and I attended the Triumph Icon event here in Austin, where Triumph Motorcycles unveiled several special edition models. But the highlight for me was finally seeing the new 2025 Speed Twin 900 in person. I’ve watched countless videos about this stunning bike, but it hasn’t shown up in showrooms yet, so I was beyond excited to check it out. It felt just about perfect for me.

Finding a bike that fits me well is a challenge, and after being disappointed by how the Triumph Speed 400 felt, I was a little nervous that the Speed Twin 900 wouldn’t be a great fit either. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case at all. Surprisingly, I was almost able to flat-foot it with the stock seat, which I didn’t expect. The seat height is listed at 780 mm – exactly the same as Kiki, my 2007 BMW F650 GS – yet on Kiki, I can only tiptoe. I have no idea why there’s such a difference, but I’m not complaining! On top of that, the riding position is nice and neutral, which I really like.

It’s definitely at the top of my list for new bikes. Maybe one day, I’ll make it mine!

I finally got the rear shoe fit properly for Kiki! The new Pirelli MT60 tire looks great, and handles nicely. You have to take it easy when riding with a new tire until the surface gets a little roughened up, but I already love the new setup. And I think the cast wheel looks pretty sweet too!
