Our friend, an amazing cook in town to teach some classes, made us a delicious gluten-free pasta with lobster tonight. It was incredible! Even Anko wanted a taste of the lobster.

My son made a delicious pasta dish with salmon tonight. It was so satisfying! The lemon pasta from Trader Joe’s is so good. I’m not a huge pasta fan, but I love this one.

Welcome to my food photography blog! Well, I DO post a lot of photos of our meals, especially since we are staying safe inside.

Today’s photos are of a delcious salmon and spinach creamy pasta, and homemade garlic baguette. The baguette was super-deluxe, with mozzarella cheese stuffed in the slices, and coated liberally with an olive oil, garlic, and herb spread. So yummy!

During the “Shelter In Place” life we are living because of the COVID-19 pandemic, almost everyone is cooking at home more. Today, Koa helped Mariko make pasta using the KitchenAid mixer pasta attachment. The noodles came out great, and were a nice change from dry pasta. I guess because we have gained back all the hours we normally spend on out-of-house activities that there is more focus and intentional effort given to the everyday tasks. Maybe it’s just because there are less tasks that we are available to us… I’m not sure, but I’ve seen it in other things too, like planting our seedlings, veggies, and herbs, house-cleaning, and getting outside for walking, running, or bicycling.

This may seem like a positive, and I think there are good habits being formed or reinforced, but also it’s been pretty hard on a lot of people whose livelihoods depend on people going out of the house. For instance, the restaurant businesses have been suffering and I feel so sorry for them. I guess we all just want life to return to normal so we can do things like socialize, go to movies, resume school classes, concerts, dine out, and go hiking/camping.

In the meantime, we’ll just cope at home – and homemade pasta can help with that.

By the way, Lani also like when we make pasta because she’ll occasionally get lucky with a stray noodle.

こんばんは。How’s it going?

Tonight Mariko and her friend made pasta from scratch using our Kitchen-Aid mixer with the pasta attachment. In the photo above, you can see the pasta hanging on an old laundry rack. The pasta was yummy and had a really nice texture. It was a nice change of pace from the store bought dry pasta, that’s for sure!

After dinner, I sat down and sketched another small portrait. This time I started with the face shape and then filled in the features using a technique of dividing up a circle and creating rectangles to get the proportions for the eyes. I like how it turned out, but I think the mouth and nose need to be brought up a tiny bit.

One thing I spent a lot of time on was the hair. I tried to give it a little more shape and I think I was successful. But we’ll see if I feel the same way tomorrow when I look at it again with fresh eyes.
