Tonight I did a little watercolor of my pineapple ukulele. And by little, I mean A5 size. You see, since I switched to the A5-sized binder, I’ve been waiting for the special Carl 20-hole punch to arrive so that I can add any kind of paper to the binder without using tape or glue. I am excited to be able to add watercolor paper at A5 size, or actually any size A5 or smaller.
So tonight I created this on a hand-cut piece of watercolor paper, then used the new hole-punch, and added it to the binder. I think it is going to work out nicely!
Tonight I decided to put my Fujifilm X-T10 in black and white (yellow filter) film simulation and take some snapshots around the house, using the 35mm f/2 WR lens. It’s a lot of fun!
Here’s an illustration I did after listening to one of my favorite songs: “Half a Person” by The Smiths. On her headphones are the lyrics, “Sixteen, clumsy, and shy… that’s the story of my life.” Although Morrissey is referring to himself in the lyrics, I think many of us could relate.
Give the song a listen! 🎶

This evening we celebrated Bay’s recital performance by going out to eat at his favorite restaurant, Komé Sushi Kitchen. The recital was actually last week, but our schedule was so full that we had to postpone the dinner until tonight. Anyways, we feasted on many of the dishes we always get, such as kaki-furai (fried oysters), ebi-furai (fried shrimp), camembert tempura, a few of the kids’ favorite sushi rolls, and a nice variety of nigiri.
But we did try a few new things. Yesterday, the Komé chefs broke down a whole tuna from Japan, so we enjoyed some of the sashimi from that, and it was the first time for me to try the duck breast and foie gras sushi. It was amazing! We also got the kani cream korokke (creamy crab croquette) which was delicious.
こんばんは。How’s it going? Today Bay and I went to IKEA to do a little shopping, mainly for a light for his room, but also I wanted to find a clipboard for drawing. We found a nice light for him, but I didn’t find a clipboard, however, I did find this wooden hand which, although labeled as decorative, is realistic enough and poseable so I should be able to use it to practice drawing. Comparing it to my own hand, I can see that the wooden one lacks some the main curvature where the palm meets the bottom of the fingers but I think it’s close enough. At any rate, it’s pretty cool to look at!
Later on, I did a quick sketch and refilled the ink in a couple of my fountain pens. It’s fun to be semi-creative, even if they are just quick sketches and scribbles. I really enjoy it, and it’s so liberating for me not to always be pursuing perfection.
I hope you had a wonderful Saturday!

I use a Fujifilm X-series camera for most of the photos on this site and my Instagram. Why not pick one up for yourself?
