I finished Gimbap and Onigiri today! At 10 episodes, I think the length felt just right, though honestly they probably could have wrapped everything up in 8. It’s a light, slow, and innocent little romance with no shocking twists or dramatic moments. It’s just two people taking their time. That’s not a complaint, just a fair warning. If you’re okay with tame and sweet, I think it’s worth the watch.

I was thrilled to discover that the second season of Love Village is now available on Netflix! I absolutely loved the first season. While I’m not entirely sure how scripted this reality show might be, it’s incredibly entertaining. Plus, it’s a great way for me to practice my Japanese listening skills.

こんばんは。How’s it going?

Today was Super Bowl Sunday here in the States, but since I am not a fan of football, I decided to refrain from watching. There are many reasons why I don’t like NFL, so I choose to not give them any of my time, but I know the majority of people love pro football and have a great time watching the championship game. I’m happy for them.

I, however, spent my time in my home office with the doors closed watching the Chinese drama/comedy My Amazing Boyfriend 我的奇妙男友. It’s a lot of fun, especially because the main actress Janice Wu 吴倩 is so funny. Her expressions are hilarious.

I made it up to episode 5 (of 28?) and am enjoying it a lot. It’s fun to see China too, and I hope I can visit again soon.

In addition to watching the tv show, I drew in my sketchbook (rather than on the iPad), wrote in my log book, and edited some photos. And earlier, I took advantage of the warm weather and went running. It was so nice to get my heart pumping again!

こんばんは。Today I was watching my favorite program “10km Run” and I noticed that the host took a photo of her shoe with the cool manhole cover. I smiled because I did the same thing when I ran in Osaka a few years ago. It’s so fun to run and sightsee/take photos.

As far as ads are concerned, it’s all about new cars and new drugs. I can’t believe how many there are! Ford Sellathon, Toyatathon, Happy Honda Days, Mercedes Benz Winter Event, Chevy Families, etc. And the drug commercials – I can’t keep up with all the creative names, but the trend seems to be skincare/psoriasis this year, and diabetes is always high on the playlist.

I just finished the book A Thousand Miles to Freedom: My Escape from North Korea, and the author describes life in the totalitarian state and the brainwashing they North Korean regime inflicts on its people with its strict control of access to information. I keep thinking of the tv (which seems to be constantly on) here at my parents’ house and the words and images always streaming out of it. It’s a different kind of brainwashing, but easy to see the similarities.

こんばんは。How’s it going?

This year I’ve started having a lot more “screentime” due to the fact that I have a Moviepass (which is awesome!), but I am also trying to watch more dorama, anime, and other Japanese TV. Actually, almost all the tv I watch is on TV Japan since I am a Japanophile, and I love some of the documentary and travel programs.

Anyways, here’s what on my watch list at the moment:

• Segodon (Taiga) – Really good historical drama. I like most of the actors in it, plus my celebrity crush Kitagawa Keiko has a part.
• Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (Live action) – Silly fun and cute girls (and Kitagawa Keiko as Sailor Mars!)
• Your Lie in April (Anime) – Liked the movie so why not? I also enjoy watching anime to see how the characters are drawn.
• Recovery of an MMO Junkie (Anime) – The story of the MMO junkie from a female point-of-view is interesting and over-the-top. She’s so kawaisou (pitiful) it’s funny.
• Quartet (Dorama) – This one is by the writer of Anone, but the characters aren’t very interesting to me. A little too slow so far but I’m sure it will get better.
