こんばんは。

Today’s photo is of the daily sketch I made, with my Timex Weekender watch and a few other items for fun. I wore this watch today because I saw an online friend’s Instagram post and it looked so nice that I was inspired! You know how you watch a movie where the characters are drinking, and it makes you want a drink, or they’re smoking and you think a cigarette might be nice? I guess that same sort of thing came over me. 😆

Here’s the Instagram pic, btw:

Somewhat related, here’s an article in Wired about all the booze in the movie Casablanca. (found link via Boing Boing)

I hope you had a good day!

Pencil to Digital (4th Time)

"Tilly" 2019
“Tilly” 2019

I have given up trying to come up with new names for these posts, so I just added “4th Time” to the title of it. But I guess since I often do these pencil sketches that end up in Adobe Illustrator, it’s become my medium(s) of choice, so that’s a good thing!

Speaking of names, I sometimes don’t know what to name each drawing. This time I named the drawing “Tilly” because I was looking at Tilly’s to see if there are any nice shirt collars to use as references. But I ended up just going with a plain t-shirt. 😜

Here’s the pencil sketch that I based the digital version from:

Pencil Sketch to Digital Drawing

The other day I sketched the following portrait in my sketchbook:

It’s one of my daily sketches, in which I spend 10 minutes or so putting pencil or pen to paper. Occasionally I’ll take a sketch that I like and then make a digital version. In this case, I took the photo, dropped it into Adobe Illustrator and drew the lines (no tracing for me!), then added the colors. I’m pleased at how it turned out. ☺

By the way, I’ve been enjoying using the Ain Black eraser (and I erase A LOT!). It works so well!

こんばんは。How’s it going?

Today I received a nice little gift (to myself) in the mail. Before the holidays I ordered a beautiful, cute, and cool print from one of my favorite artists, Laura Heikkala. The print I ordered is called “Gathering”. Isn’t it great? I need to find a nice frame for it and decide on a place to hang it.

As a bonus, the stamps on the package are really neat. I just love the waves at the top of the rowboat stamp. ❤

I hope you had a nice Monday!

A Black Ink Water Brush

Tonight I filled my Ohuhu waterbrush with a mix of diluted ink, first with Noodler’s Bulletproof Black. I added just a few drops and painted the background trees. I had to get the paper really wet, and I am not very fond of the way the ink granulated on the watercolor paper. Next, I refilled the brush with water and 10 drops of Kuretake Zig Cartoonist Ink and painted the items in the foreground. I am really pleased with the effect! It reminds me of Chinese ink paintings a bit, since I guess the medium is essentially the same.

It’s fun to “doodle” using the waterbrush and diluted ink. I’ll do more for sure in the future!

I hope you had a nice day!
