Today’s post title are two unrelated things, but whatever… I don’t really care.

First, the cats! 🐱🐱 My goodness they are crazy. Although they are sisters, they have definitely got their own personalities. I’d have to say that Anko, the tuxedo cat, is the stranger of the two.. she has a goofy way about her. As you can see in the photo above, she loves to hide and act silly. And her favorite position to nap in is on her back. Bizarre!

The calico, Yuzu, acts more like a big sister, taking care of Anko and grooming her. But she also has a little bit of a mean streak, and is super-sneaky. And she uses her teeth and claws to great effect. If you are relaxing with a blanket over you, watch out for your toes!

And the other subject of this post is that Koa has had his first Cross-country meet!

There were four middle schools competing today and his school came in second overall, with Koa placing 55th. He said he had a lot of fun and enjoys running. 🏃 I love that.

I think it’s pretty cool that he is in cross-country, since both my brother and I ran cross-country in high school. I really never expected either of my kids to run in school, so this is a pleasant surprise!

I didn’t see this first meet, so this photo was taken when I picked him up back at his school. I wanted to get him in his cross-country uniform, but he had already changed. 😞 Anyways, the photo is not that great, with that distracting tire on the left side, the tree sticking out of the top of Koa’s head, and the car hitting him from behind, but I like his smile and that the photo marks a little bit of history. 😊

I hope you had a nice Tuesday!

こんばんは!How’s it going?

I’m always amazed that the cats can be comfortable enough to sleep just about anywhere. In the photo above, Anko is taking a nap on top of Lani’s crate. Even though there is a thin blanket on top, the wire crate can’t be that comfortable, can it? 🐱

But the cats’ favorite place to lounge is on the handlebars of our exercise bike. Sometimes both of them get up there and take naps together. I guess that perch is in the prime location, right in the middle of the living room so they can have a view of the kitchen, the breakfast area, the aquarium, and their room. And maybe they feel safe up there since Lani cannot bother them! 🐶

こんばんは!Hello!

Here in Austin, we’re experiencing a lot of rain. 🌧 So today’s photo is of a little guy (or gal maybe?) who is right at home in the wet stuff. Literally. Its home is water.

It’s one of my new fish, an Albino Barb. It look just like my Tiger Barbs except instead of black stripes, it has white stripes. It’s so cute, isn’t it? 🐠

By the way, it’s so difficult to get a close-up photo of the aquarium fish. I set the camera to manual focus, pre-focused about 6-inches away, bumped up the ISO to 12,800, put the camera on burst mode and waited… and waited. When a fish came into the frame, I pressed the shutter and let it capture a dozen or so frames. 📸 And I still didn’t get a really good photo. Oh well, it was still fun!

When I imported into Lightroom, I had about 340 photos. From those, I rejected using the X key. If you hold down the Shift key while pressing X and you will reject the photo and move to the next one automatically. Makes it quick to mark photos for deletion. After setting the reject flag, just Delete Rejected Photos and say bye-bye to all those unwanted photos. After doing that, I was left with about 8 photos of the three types of fish I have, the two types of Barbs, and the Siamese algae eaters.

I find it so fun to delete photos… weird huh? But hoarding photos and things that are not useful or beneficial is so unattractive to me. Ugh the clutter!

I hope you had a nice Monday. Stay dry! ☔

🐠 New Old Aquarium

こんばんは!Hi!

This evening we set up Bay’s new aquarium, which is actually our old aquarium, but since we got a new 20-gallon tank, Bay wanted the 10-gallon tank for his room. I was happy to give it to him because I remember when I was his age I also had an aquarium in my room. 🐠

Yesterday I helped him clean the tank, by taking out the old gravel and rocks and then he scrubbed the glass to remove the algae that has built up over the years. He also cleaned the filter pump and aquarium hood. It’s looking good!

And today we went to the local fish store to buy some new substrate and a couple fish. Since I kept the old biological media, the water should be cycled pretty quickly. I recommended Bay start out with a couple of Siamese algae-eaters, and then do some research as to what kinds of fish (and how many) would do well in a 10-gallon tank. He also wants to put some live grasses in it, which should be pretty cool.

I remember when I was in middle school I had a 10-gallon tank in my room… it may even have been smaller. Perhaps an 8-gallon? Anyways, the filter system we used was very different back then. We used one of those vibrating pumps that drove air through a tube and into a plastic filter box. The bubbles would create a current that would keep water flowing through the filter material. It was a loud system! But I loved that little aquarium and it gave me years of enjoyment. Our guppies lived long happy lives and we raised a lot of little baby guppies!

When I was in high school, I had a larger aquarium, maybe a 12 or 15-gallon tank, using the same filter system. But I was able to get some different kinds of fish – platys, mollys, plecos, and tetras. I loved that tank as well! I remember spacing-out looking into that aquarium for hours while listening to Environments records… ☺️

During college I had another aquarium in our dorm room. It was a cool plexi tank and I think I had a couple mollys and a little frog. This tank had an under-gravel filter system, but still used that loud pump.

These days, the pumps and filters we use are the impeller-type which are quiet, efficient, and easy to maintain. I’m sometimes tempted to get one of the air-pumps so I can have some cool bubbles in the aquarium, but I’m satisfied with how the aquarium is set up now.

I’m really happy that I’ve had an aquarium in my life since I was young. It’s a fun and relaxing hobby that can be so much more than “just taking care of fish”. I hope that Bay and/or Koa continue with the tradition!

こんばんは!How’s it going?

Today I worked from home and I got a lot done! It’s funny but I thought I was more productive in the office, but I was cranking away at home from 7:30 AM all the way til 4:30 PM! Well, except when the cats came into the office and shut my laptop, the proceeded to lie on top of it! 😸 I guess they wanted me to take a break and give them some attention.

Tomorrow night my family returns home from their long stay in Japan, so I did a lot of clean-up around the house. Actually, the house isn’t messy but I vacuumed and gathered up all the socks that are strewn about the floors by the cats. They love to grab socks out of the clothes baskets.

I’m looking forward to having my family back at home. For the past week I have been with a massive family at the reunion, so when I came home to an empty house (besides the animals), it was a little shock. It’ll sure be nice to get back to normal life again. 😄

こんばんは!Hello, how’s it going?

Well, I’m back at home (arrived this morning at 1 AM) and back in the swing of things. That means I am back to work and also I have a few days of just myself and my three girlfriends. In the photo above, you can see one of them playing with my shoe. I think the shoe will be okay – Converse hold up pretty well against cat claws… so far at least! 😾

It’s funny, but I’ve only been gone a week and the kittens have grown so much! They look like small cats, not kittens anymore. 😵

While I was on vacation for the past week, I didn’t have time to keep up with my daily blog posts. Most of the days when I returned to my cabin on the ship or to the bed at our guest house, I was too tired from drinking and partying with the family. 🎉🍹 However, I did take plenty of photos. 📷 Now I need to go back and write those posts, which I will back-date.

I’m not sure how they will appear in rss feeds, but at least they will be ordered correctly here on my blog. But, just so you know, the blog posts from July 24-31, 2016 will be back-dated. 📆

I hope you had a nice Monday… at least as nice as Mondays can be. 😜

My Fasting Experience

こんばんは!How’s it going?

These past couple weeks, I’ve been water-fasting quite a bit, with a 72-hour fast and a couple of 48-hour fasts. The rest of the days I just ate at dinner time. It’s been a great experience, and I feel a lot healthier! 😃

One of the main benefits for me is that I get a nice sense of control and self-confidence over food. The food industry is so powerful and influential, and they want us to eat more and more, so it’s been great to regain control and realize that I don’t have to eat as much as they tell me to. And I’m not going to die if I skip a meal!

It’s funny, but for as long as most of us have lived, we’ve been told to eat three meals a day (and then several small meals a day), that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, etc… but really, where did these rules come from? It’s been so ingrained in our culture that you need to eat eat eat. So if you mention that you are fasting, people are appalled and can’t understand. The belief is that it is so unhealthy, but where did that information come from? ❓

People have been fasting forever, and some of our wisest people recommended fasting for health. It’s really quite fascinating!

The first time I fasted, it was difficult, but once I broke through and completed a 36-hour fast, it became much easier to fast whenever I wanted. The sense of empowerment is incredible.

Anyways, enough about that. There’s so much more I want to say, but I’ll save it for another time. Please check it out all the information on water-fasting if you are interested!

Tonight’s photo is of Yuzu, our calico cat. Both cats love to jump up to the exercise bike’s handlebars and hang out there. It reminds me of a jungle cat, relaxing in the tree. What do you think?

I hope you had a nice weekend!
