Perseid Meteor Shower

“Perseid Meteor Shower” Cedar Park, 2020

I tried my hand at capturing some of the meteors of this year’s Perseid Meteor Shower by setting up my X100T’s intervalometer and letting it shoot for a few hours, then checking the results for shooting stars. The five-hour span resulted in seven shooting stars, which I combined into the composite photo above. It’s pretty neat how almost all of them originate from the same point, isn’t it? I’m happy with the results, but next year I will keep the camera going all night which will require that I wake up twice in the middle of the night to reset the camera, unless I upgrade to the latest X100, which can shoot all night all by itself. (my current camera has a 999 exposure limit)

Since I had a lot of images, I created a time-lapse video. It’s not optimal for viewing shooting stars, but I think it’s fun to watch anyways. 😀

こんにちは!

I decided to shift my Instagram account subject matter to just pictures of the clouds (and sky), since I am pretty convinced that they are my favorite things to take pictures of. My Instagram has been a mix of clouds, travel, and food, but I think I’ll just focus on the one subject. I’ll keep all my old photos, including my earliest where Instagram meant spontaneous snapshots, just for history’s sake.

Anyways, we’ll see how it goes! I’m not very active there, with the main effort being this blog, and then my daily photo post on Flickr. But Instagram is still fun to browse and see what friends and family are up to!

Mariko is upping her Zoom class lighting rig with this new LED ring-light system. We need to order the iPad holder for the center, but for now, she’ll just use it as a directional light. The brightness is adjustable, so it can be used to add a bit of fill light nicely, or you can crank up the intensity and bounce it off the wall or ceiling. It’s pretty neat! I might even use it for my work meetings. 😃

Glowing Sky

This evening, we were relaxing as usual when Bay said that the sky was really orange. I took a peek out the window and decided that I needed to get a photo, so I grabbed my camera, hopped on my bike, and sped over to the wide-open space that offers a good view of the sunset.

To my surprise, there were about 10 people there, all watching the sunset. One lady even had her camp chair set up so she could watch in comfort. Since I had never seen people stop to actually watch the sunset at that location, I wondered if there was some other special event that was about to happen, such as a space station flyover. I think it was just a beautiful sunset that drew everyone out of their homes, though, but of course that’s plenty of reason! And Bay was right, the sky was glowing orange! 😊

こんばんは。How’s it going?

Many of you know, but I have been doing a 365 project for a while now, and it kind of connects to this blog in that my daily photo becomes the subject matter. Sometimes, it’s the reverse, where I make a daily blog post and then take a photo. But usually the photos will just be the literal snapshot of something that happened that day, and I’ll add a few words.

Because of this process, my posts tend to follow whatever hobbies I am into at the time and right now, going out for bicycle rides around the neighborhood is something I have more of an interest now since we all are staying at home almost all the time.

It got me thinking of a bicycle ride I went on in 1982 with a group from the YMCA. Two friends and I joined a 9-day bicycle tour that started in San Francisco, and ended at the YMCA in our hometown of Torrance. It was really fun, but surprisingly I hadn’t thought about it too much since then. Maybe I’ll write about my memories of that in another post, as I managed to find some old photos of the trip when I visited my parents last Christmas.

But for now, I’ll just continue with some photos I took on tonight’s ride. 🚲

I hope you had a nice day! またね~
