Today I bought a new Lamplight oil lantern at the local sporting goods store. It was only $10, so I figured, why not? I love my blue Dietz Little Wizard lantern and use it almost every day as one would use a candle, and now I have a smaller lantern as well. The light from the new lantern is not quite as bright, since it uses a 3/8″ wick vs the 5/8″ wick of the Dietz, but it’s cute and both lanterns’ flames produce a really soothing light. I love them so much!

Bay came home from college for Thanksgiving. I was very happy to see him. Even though he is only a few hours away by car, it sometimes seems like he is a world away. So it’s so nice when he comes home. I actually watch his icon on google maps (we have location sharing on) and as I see him get closer to home, I get more and more excited, just like a little kid. 😅

Today’s photo is of his slippers (on the right) next to mine. I like it that he brought them home to use while he’s here. Unfortunately, he can only stay a couple of days because he’s so busy with school – in fact, he’s spending most of his time in his room working on school projects. But even so, it’s heartwarming to know that he’s home.

Today I saw this mantis on the sidewalk – it was so big that I had no trouble seeing it as I was running. Growing up in Southern California, I never saw praying mantises in the wild, but here in Texas, they are quite common. They are freaky and cool, aren’t they?

I hope you had a great day! またね~

“Oden” Cedar Park, 2021

I returned from 80° F Southern California sun to a chilly 50° F Texas gloom, but tonight’s dinner was the perfect antidote. A pot of delicious Japanese oden. The traditional 辛子 karashi (hot mustard) was perfect with it, but I also kicked it up a notch by adding some fresh (homegrown by my mom) scotch bonnet to the broth in my bowl. 🌶 I was toasty warm after that meal for sure!
