UNIQLO Visit

“Uniqlo” Torrance, 2021

When we visit Torrance, there are a few places we have to go to. It used to be Daiso and Kinokinuya, but now we have those in Austin, so there’s no need to visit those over the holidays. But we still don’t have a UNIQLO, so now the Torrance Uniqlo store is our must-visit store.

This year, I got a t-shirt and Bay got a jacket. But I really wanted to grab a couple N-95 masks that they were giving out last time I was here in November. Unfortunately they only had surgical masks… bummer. Oh well, I’ll just have to be happy with my shirt. 😊

I enjoyed another relaxing vacation day with my family doing family stuff. Specifically bowling at Gable House Bowl (my brother bested me by a single point!) and lunch at Mi Burrito.

I had never eaten at Mi Burrito before, so I was excited to try it. My Al Pastor Burrito and Cadillac Margarita hit the spot! The burrito was a little on the salty side, but still delicious and there are so many things on the menu that I’d love to go back and try some different dishes.

The outdoor seating was nice (especially during COVID-times) and we even had a view of the water! It was a little chilly today, but I was happy the sun was shining. A nice lunch for sure. 😀

Christmas Dinner

“Hawaiian Dinner” Torrance, 2021

Our second signature family holiday meal is a Hawaiian feast. This year we enjoyed kalua pig, lau lau, lomi salmon, chicken long rice (not pictured), musubi, and poi. New this year were some sweet bread rolls, and Chinese greens with spicy tofu. So good!

Will definitely need to run a few extra miles to burn off some of these calories! 😝

“Jamaican Dinner” Torrance, 2021

As usual, we enjoyed a huge Jamaican feast for our Christmas Eve dinner. My mom cooks up a storm for us, with jerk pork and chicken, stew peas, rice and peas, stew chicken, callaloo, plantain, shrimp rundown, oxtail, curry goat, and patties. It was awesome! The only problem is that the food doesn’t photograph well since the colors are mostly all muted. But the taste was off-the-charts.

Thanks, Mom!

Running on Vacation During the Pandemic

“Running” Torrance, 2021

I’ve been trying to keep to my running schedule while we are on holiday in SoCal, but it’s been difficult. The main reason is that Torrance is so crowded with people that it’s a hassle to run on the sidewalks and streets in a socially distanced way. In order to avoid others, I am constantly having to switch to the other side of the road or sidewalk, or hop from the sidewalk to the road or vice-versa.

At my neighborhood in Texas, the roads are very wide so I can pretty much run there and avoid most contact with others. It makes for a relaxing run. But in Torrance, constantly having to keep an eye on my surroundings gets old real quick… and it makes for a mentally exhausting hour. Still, I am getting a few miles in on my run days, which is better than nothing.
