Today is Setsubun, and we had our traditional ehoumaki which was eaten facing south-southeast this year. Normally, Setsubun falls on February 3rd, but this year it came a day early. The last time it was celebrated on the 2nd was way back in 1897! February 2nd is also my dad’s birthday, so it’s a nice double-celebration this year. 😊👹

I’m not a huge pasta fan, but homemade fettucine is really good. 🍝 Mariko made the noodles and I helped to grill the chicken for the Fettucine Alfredo. おいしかった!
So, since getting my GoPro, I’ve been making little annotated videos of my bicycling or riding my motorcycle. It’s really fun to do, but I’m sure it’s super-boring to watch. In fact, I don’t even watch them after I’ve uploaded them. But not only are they fun to make in Premiere Pro, but they force me to think a little bit more about what I did, and maybe I can self-reflect on things while I’m at it. I guess my blog also serves this purpose as well as just simply documenting my daily life.
So without further ado, here’s today’s video:
If more of these videos interest you, here’s a link to my YouTube channel, where you can find the “Silent Bicycling” videos, as well as my time-lapses, etc.

Today I planted some jalapeno seeds in small containers. It’s the earliest I’ve done it, but I am still a few weeks late according to the experts. But I think I’ll be okay! Last year, I started so late and our pepper plants didn’t product much fruit, but I am confident this year we’ll have a nice harvest. Our Scotch Bonnet plants from last year actually survived the winter and are already sprouting new leaves which is surprising!
In order to boost my chances with these seeds, I’ve enlisted the help of a sloth guardian. 😄
