Tonight we had oden for dinner. We normally save this dish for the winter months when it’s cold outside and we want something warm and comforting, but Mariko had the craving, so she ordered an oden set from Weee! and added egg and tofu to round it out. It was delicious! 🍲😊
I made the family-favorite char-siu style Hawaiian chicken today. I usually do these on the barbecue, but it ran out of gas right after I put the chicken on. Not great timing. So I moved the whole operation indoors and finished them on the grill pan, and I was genuinely surprised at how well it turned out. It didn’t have that smoky barbecue zing going on, but it was still delicious. 😋

I picked up some Fishwife x Whole Foods shopping bags for my wife today, and I got lucky. They’re hard to find, but the staff was restocking them right as I walked in. Perfect timing. The illustration on these is really fun, very colorful and playful. I’m glad I was able to get them. 😊
I’ve been using this old sake glass as a pen holder on my desk. It has a little leaping deer and maple leaves on it, and it’s just too cute not to put to use. Repurposing things like this is fun to do. 😊
I picked up a Black Diffusion Filter for my Fujifilm 35mm f/2 lens, and I really like what it does to the highlights. It adds just a subtle glow, nothing dramatic. I’m not sure I’ll keep it on there permanently, but knowing myself, I’ll probably forget it’s even on there. So I guess “permanent” it is. 📷😄
This summer, our Scotch Bonnet and Jalapeño plants have been giving us lots of peppers to eat. In fact there are too many for us, so I have been drying a lot of them out to use as pepper flakes. I am also going to try to make some chili crisp oil. I’ve found a few recipes that look good. We’ll see how it goes! 🌶️
