こんばんは!How’s it going?

Today in Austin, the wind was crazy! I was expecting for some of our older wooden fences to come down, but I think they survived. We really should get them replaced but I think we’ll hold out as long as we can.

The photo for today is of our shelf where we keep a bunch of our eating utensils – mainly our はし (chopsticks) and wooden spoons. We have a regular kitchen drawer where we keep our regular forks, spoons, and knives, but I prefer to use はし whenever I can, and instead of metal spoons, I like to use wooden spoons.

To me, wooden utensils make the food taste better because there’s no metallic tang that comes with regular silverware. Plus wooden utensils feel better on the lips, mouth, and tongue. Really!

One drawback is that the wooden utensils can’t go into the dishwasher since the extreme heat can damage them, but that’s a small price to pay for a more natural eating experience, IMHO.

If you only have metal eating utensils, why not get a set of wooden utensils and give them a try? You might just become a convert like me.

I hope you had a nice Sunday and a fantastic weekend!

こんばんは How’s it going?

When I got my new phone a few weeks ago, not only did I have space to install any app I wanted, but I also had a phone with the processing power to play Pokemon GO! again. 😆

I don’t play games on my phone or computer with any regularity but I do enjoy it every once in a while. My type of game is the stress-free non-competitve type, like Animal Crossing or SimCity, and Pokemon GO! is pretty fun for me since you can simply collect Pokemon and not battle others.

Today’s photo is of my phone in the car. I have two pokestops that I visit in the neighborhood when I pick up Koa from school. Gotta stock up on pokeballs!

I hope you had a nice Saturday!

Hi everyone. Despite the shocking expression in today’s photo, which somewhat describes my mood, I will try to keep a positive mindset! 😄

At the very least, I am enjoying the mis-tweets on my Twitter feed, @barron. 🐦

I hope you had a nice Friday, and let’s have a great weekend.

こんばんは!げんき?

Today’s photo is of our dog, Lani, lying next to our old heater keeping warm. It’s actually not cold in Texas but as I mentioned in a previous post, my body temperature is kind of wacky. Or maybe my temperature is normal, but I often feel like the air is too cold. So, when I am on my desktop computer in the home office, I’ll turn on the portable heater to keep warm.

Of course, our pets like the heater too. 🐶🐱🐱❤️

I hope you had a nice Thursday!

Take care,

Looking for a Routine

こんばんは!How’s it going?

The rain is coming down pretty hard tonight, ⛈ and while I love the sound of the raindrops on the roof, there’s always a part of me wondering if our roof will leak. I guess it’s about time to get our roof inspected and I can put my mind at ease, huh.

Anyways, lately I’ve been trying to rework my schedule to find time for Japanese study. I’m kind of torn between the “old way” of doing things, which means looking at the schedule and figuring out a consistent time each day, or the “new way” of doing things, which means being flexible, but making sure to do it every day.

For the past year, I’ve taken and posted at least one photo per day, and I’ve also posted to this blog each day. I didn’t have a set schedule for doing these things, but they usually happened in the evening, or close to bedtime. After a few weeks, this just became my normal routine and I didn’t feel any stress to do it. In fact, I missed a day or two, and then doubled up the next day. Not worth beating myself up for not being perfect, right?

So I am thinking that I would like to incorporate my Japanese study into that same type of routine… but that means maybe staying up a little later, or perhaps trying to study at lunchtime at my office. I actually thought about doing that the past couple days, but I am already in my routine there where I just work straight through lunch and get my 8 hours in.

I guess this week I’ll just keep an eye open for times when I am free, for instance when I get home and the kids haven’t returned from school, or even when they are doing their homework or practicing piano/percussion. I think there will be plenty of time, I just have to commit to it and get it into my mind that it should be part of my daily activities. I’m excited!!!

Today’s photo is of a shelf that we have in our house that I keep a few of my cameras on for display. The Nikon and Minolta actually have film in them and my friend Matt (who is also camera-crazy) has taken a few photos with them. I’m curious to see what he took!

I hope you had a nice Tuesday!
