こんばんは! Good evening!

Did you have a nice Easter? Our was nice and relaxing… now that the kids are getting bigger, they aren’t interested in egg hunting but they did enjoy receiving an Easter gift bag this morning. It was filled with candy and customized rubber stamps with their names on them. I remember when they were little, they would enjoy looking for the Easter baskets as soon as they woke up! This morning, Koa wasn’t even at home! He spent the night at a friends house and I picked him up at 10am. Apparently they stayed up until 3am, which is to be expected, but what was a surprise to me was that Koa was able to stay awake all day today.

Before I picked him up, though, I woke up at my usual time (before 6am), and was on my laptop deleting old bookmarks when I came across an old link to a pizza recipe. This one calls for tortillas in a cast-iron skilled for quick and easy quasi-pizza. So I made a couple little pizzas for myself, actually putting an egg on one of them to make a breakfast-style pizza. It was yummy! These were pretty small pizzas, using the smallest sized flour tortillas you can find in the supermarket. Later, when Mariko and the kids were hungry, I made them some more pizzas and they gobbled them up. The pizzas were a huge hit! I must have made about 6 pizzas for them. 🍕

This afternoon cleaned our aquarium, did some laundry, and then had a beer and watched a few episodes of an anime that I was interested in called “The Pilot’s Love Song”. I enjoyed the first 4 episodes a lot and am looking forward to watching the rest of them. I am not a huge anime fan, but maybe that will change… there are some really cool shows out there!

For dinner, we didn’t have a traditional Easter meal (we’re not big on ham), but rather a dim-sum inspired feast as you can see in the photo. It was delicious! No chance for leftovers either, it was so tasty. Then after dinner, we watched Zoolander for the first time. It was so bad but good and fun. We enjoyed it a lot!

I hope you had a nice weekend. Let’s have a great week!

こんばんは!

Today was a lazy Saturday, in which I spent several hours in front of the TV. This evening I watched a Japanese movie from 2006, Hana. From the very start, it wasn’t very good and I felt like I was wasting my time… but I kept watching in hopes that it would get better. The reviews on the DVD case were pretty good, so I was optimistic. But no, it stayed on its slow, plodding course until the end. Holy cow, it was so boring… and it was over two hours long! I cannot recommend this one. 😞 Avoid!

Well, tomorrow is Easter. 🐰 We don’t have any plans this year, like we used to when the kids were small. I’m sure we’ll have some yummy food, though! We always do. 🍴

Sleeping habits

I am awake at 5:30 am every morning. That’s my internal alarm clock. It’s a habit that has been formed because I need to wake up at that time in order to do my morning routine (shower, make coffee, empty dishwasher, make breakfast for kids, etc.). However, on Sundays when I don’t have that routine, I still wake up at 5:45. I simply cannot sleep in, even though I try every week. ⏰

The rest of the family has no problem sleeping late… as evidenced by the fact that they are still all upstairs in their beds and it is past 8:30. 😴

I used to wish I could join them, but now I am kind of glad that I can enjoy these few hours of quiet, with no morning duties (I still empty out the dishwasher and make coffee, although at a relaxed pace). It’s actually very nice, rising before the sun, and observing the transition from dark to light happening at a slow pace. 😄

Have a Good Friday everyone! 😆

こんばんは! Hello!

It’s Thursday, the day before Good Friday. Tomorrow I have the day off from work because it is a holiday at my office! So, I will enjoy a day at home with my kids, who also have the day off from school. But, I have a lot of work to do, so I will probably spend a few hours on the laptop getting some things done. 💻

Today’s photos is of my Chromebook, which I am enjoying using. The nicest thing about this model is the keyboard. It is so easy to type on and I can really go fast. I never really had a good keyboard before and didn’t realize what a difference it could make! I just figured they were all the same and I would adapt. But this one is fantastic. I guess Google specifies the keyboard design for all Chromebooks and you can tell they did a lot of testing. I think the keys are spaced out nicely and the keypad travel is just about perfect.

The trackpad is also nice and responsive, a good size, and I have quickly gotten used to the multi-touch gestures. I am now using the two-finger scrolling on my work laptop too! The trackpad on Chromebooks only has one button, so if you want to “right-click”, you tap the trackpad with two fingers, and it will bring up the right-click menu. I got used to it in no time.

One thing I don’t like is that you cannot give your Chromebook a name. I like to name my devices after mythological characters, but I guess I can’t with this laptop. Apparently it would make the device less secure. I don’t know if that is true or not, but it’s a little bit of a bummer.

I do plan on adding some stickers to my Chromebook. I’ve ordered several from RedBubble and they are on their way. I’ve removed the Intel and Acer stickers from the wristpad that you can see in the photo above, so it’s all prepped for my otaku stickers!

Lastly, I put some gaffers tape over the webcam. I rarely use the camera but I am a bit paranoid of hackers turning on the camera remotely, or myself turning it on by accident. Anyways, the gaffers tape is easy to remove, and does not leave any gummy residue.

Ok, I think I am going to read a bit before I hit the sack. Talk again!
