Today we had lunch at Los Azulejos in San Antonio, and it was fantastic! We started by sharing an Azulejos Margarita, which was a great way to kick things off. For my meal, I ordered the “Antojitos Trilogía,” and it was absolutely delicious. Each of the three main items complemented the others perfectly. I loved every bite.

Description from the menu: “Trio of Quesadilla with pork belly in a flour tortilla with a chili and honey glaze, chicken tostada with rajas, cream and a corn sopecito with guacamole and homemade chorizo.”

Also worth mentioning—the basket of chips they serve before the meal was incredibly good. They only give one basket for free, which makes sense. I could have eaten them all day.

Tonight Mariko taught me how to make my favorite dish: okonomiyaki. It was such a fun experience! There are many ways to make okonomiyaki, but tonight’s version started with a crepe-like batter fried on the griddle, then layered with seasoning, cabbage, pork, yakisoba, egg, and a mix of sauces. It turned out delicious! Next time, I’d like to try mixing the cabbage directly into the batter. I’m already looking forward to our next okonomiyaki night.

“Saké and Cheese Pairing” Austin, 2025

Tonight we attended a saké and cheese pairing event at Komé Sushi Kitchen, and it turned out to be such an eye-opening experience. I had no idea how well saké could complement different types of cheese! Each pairing brought out unique flavors and textures I wouldn’t have expected. I also realized how little I actually know about cheese, which has definitely sparked my curiosity. I’d love to dive deeper into it, so I’m thinking about signing up for a class or two at Antonelli’s sometime soon.

After the event, we decided to stick around for some sushi and other Japanese dishes. Everything we tried was fresh, beautifully prepared, and seriously delicious. A fun and flavorful night all around!

I started watching Umi no Hajimari / 海のはじまり after a fellow co-working Twitch streamer recommended it, and I’m completely hooked! It’s a really sad show, but the acting is excellent, the story is engaging, and the characters feel very real and believable. I might end up binge-watching the whole series over the next couple of days.
