Chicken, Pens, and Studying

“Karaage” Cedar Park, 2018
こんばんは。How’s it going?
As you can see, we feasted once again on karaage (Japanese-style fried chicken). It’s a family favorite, although we have our own preferences on how to eat. For instance, Mariko like hers with a little salt and lemon, Koa likes to squeeze lemon into a small dish and dip the karaage, while Bay and I like it with lemon and Kewpie mayo. But whichever extra seasoning we use, it’s a must that we enjoy it with a nice bowl of steamed rice. Karaage and rice is the best!
Later on I was in the office being productive by setting up my Japanese studying flashcards on the computer using the Anki system. It’s fun! And I am also continuing to practice writing using my fountain pens. Writing with those pens and with my favorite inks makes the practice a pleasure. Anything I can do to make studying easier is welcome. 😀
Speaking of the pens I bought this new pen case the other day. It’s basic, but good quality and the price was right! I used to just keep my pens on my desk, but now with the cat-proof case, I know there won’t be any inky surprises. 😾

Cioppino

“Cioppini” Cedar Park, 2018
こんばんは。Here are some photos of tonight’s dinner: cioppino and focaccia. My wife had a couple friends over for “Girls’ Night” which means there’s guaranteed to be yummy food. And the cioppino was amazing! Mussels, clams, shrimp, crab, and fish in a warm broth, and homemade focaccia bread for dipping. I had three bowls of cioppino!

Gifts and Sketch

“Gift and Cards” Cedar Park, 2018
こんばんは。How’s it going?
Today I present two photos that I took around the house. The first is of a gift and card that I got for my wife for Valentines and her birthday, which are not far apart. I’m happy that she put them on display! 😀
The second photo is just of a small sketch I made while listening to a webcast. I have a mental barrier when creating drawings, and that is that I try to be a perfectionist, and I am never 100% happy with what I draw. So, I get discouraged even before I start. Then I don’t start. But, I know I can break through! Maybe at this point in my sketching, quantity is more valuable than quality.

I hope you had a nice Thursday!

Early Voting

こんばんは。Today I voted in the primaries for our upcoming elections. Later this year we’ll be voting for the governor’s seat, as well as our local reps for Congress. I’ve never voted in the primaries before, and I don’t know all the candidates, so I only cast my ballot for a few of them who I wanted to support.
Speaking of voting, I came across a quote that I saved a while back, which says “We vote three times a day”. It’s in the context of voting with our wallets and where we buy our food. Since corporations often support certain legislation, we can imagine that the dollars that we spend at their stores or restaurants as spent on the corporation’s causes. For instance, I don’t agree with Chick-Fil-A’s stance on gay marriage, so they won’t be receiving any of my money. It does take time to research these issues, and honestly, I don’t know what all these corporations stand for, but I try to find out whenever possible. I do what I can, I suppose.
I hope you had a nice Wednesday!
