こんばんは。How’s it going?

This year I’ve started having a lot more “screentime” due to the fact that I have a Moviepass (which is awesome!), but I am also trying to watch more dorama, anime, and other Japanese TV. Actually, almost all the tv I watch is on TV Japan since I am a Japanophile, and I love some of the documentary and travel programs.

Anyways, here’s what on my watch list at the moment:

  • Segodon (Taiga) – Really good historical drama. I like most of the actors in it, plus my celebrity crush Kitagawa Keiko has a part.
  • Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (Live action) – Silly fun and cute girls (and Kitagawa Keiko as Sailor Mars!)
  • Your Lie in April (Anime) – Liked the movie so why not? I also enjoy watching anime to see how the characters are drawn.
  • Recovery of an MMO Junkie (Anime) – The story of the MMO junkie from a female point-of-view is interesting and over-the-top. She’s so kawaisou (pitiful) it’s funny.
  • Quartet (Dorama) – This one is by the writer of Anone, but the characters aren’t very interesting to me. A little too slow so far but I’m sure it will get better.

That’s it!

I hope you had a nice Monday. ☺

こんばんは。

This evening we had a few friends over for “Sailor Moon Nite”, which is a variation of our “Kaiju Nite” get-togethers. But instead of watching Japanese monster movies, we watched several episodes of the Sailor Moon anime and live-action tv show.

As usual, the evening started off with a potluck-style dinner and checking out the toys. Mikey always has a great selection of toys and tonight he even brought some Sailor Moon manga. And glow sticks! 😝

After pigging out on Char-siu-style chicken, salmon poké, three kinds of salad, and shrimp cocktail, it was time to move to the TV room and go over the notes for the evening. Mikey always prepares some vital background info to the shows we will be watching, and also the lyrics to the theme songs so we can all sing along. It’s pretty fun!

The first show we watched was episode 1 of the anime. Most of us were Sailor Moon newbies so it was great to see the very beginning of the saga. After that, we switched over to the live-action version of the first episode, which was a lot of fun! And of course, the highlight for me was watching my favorite actress Kitagawa Keiko as Sailor Mars. She was so cute!

We watched a total of seven episodes this evening while drinking beer, saké, wine, and corn whiskey. And I almost forgot to mention, we made chocolate parfaits as well, in honor of the characters Naru and Nephrite, who were planning to eat parfaits together. Unfortunately, Nephrite dies in Naru’s arms, and they never got to eat their chocolate parfait. 🍨

It was such a fun viewing party, I can’t wait for a second Sailor Moon nite!

こんばんは!Hello, how’s it going?

Today’s photo is of… Totoro! Do I even need to say what these little creatures are? I feel like everyone knows them… well, if not, they should. 😃

I first saw My Neighbor Totoro (となりのトトロ) in maybe 1989 with my girlfriend. She was from Hong Kong, so we watched the Cantonese version, with English subtitles. I remember distinctly that the when the blue totoro was being chase by Mei, it made the sound “tsee-tsee-tsah, tsee-tsee-tsah!”. I thought it was strange when I saw the Japanese version that it didn’t make that sound. 😕

But anyways, it’s such a great movie… I still enjoy watching it because the summer feeling is so nice… the sounds of the insects, and keeping the house open to the outside. I miss summers in Japan so much! 🎐

Speaking of summer, just one more week until it officially begins. Woohoo! My favorite season.

Well, I hope you have a good rest of the evening! (or nice day, wherever you happen to be)
