Watching Over the Moon

“Over the Moon” Cedar Park, 2020

I was looking forward to watching Over the Moon, and when I saw my Twitter feed filled with news about it, I had to watch it immediately. I was kind of blown away by the animation and art style, especially Fei Fei’s hometown. It was beautiful! The scenes on the moon were pretty cool, but I preferred the Earth-bound visuals.

The story was fun, a bit silly, but there were a couple of sad scenes when my eyes teared up a bit, so I guess it was a pretty good movie. 😭

I know this film is kind of a big deal for Chinese Americans, and I felt a little bit of pride in my heritage, even though I am very far removed from it. Still, something stirs within me when I see Chinese, Japanese, or Hawaiian heritage represented like this. The English and Scottish part of me… not so much, but maybe some day.

My Horror, Gore, and Violence Limit

“Kingdom” Cedar Park, 2020

Just recently, the second season of Kingdom was released and Mariko and Bay watched the first episode tonight. As far as horror movies/tv goes, Kingdom is relatively tame. I am not a fan of horror movies, or violent movies, so I don’t watch. But I find it interesting that Bay and Mariko enjoy them, but Koa and I don’t. Actually, Koa is okay with watching them, but I will opt not to. I’m even apprehensive about watching Parasite!

Speaking of aversions, I dislike ultra-violent movies and gore in general, particularly dismemberment. Ugh. I used to enjoy Quentin Tarantino movies, but ever since I saw Lucy Liu’s character’s demise in Kill Bill: Volume 1, I cannot watch any of his movies. I recently tried to watch again with Inglourious Basterds, but didn’t make it far. I’ve heard Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is very entertaining, but just hearing about the pool scene is enough to make me say, “Not gonna happen”.

Well, that’s just a quirk of mine. I guess I won’t experience some good movies, but it’s a sacrifice I am willing to make. 😄

CGI Dogs 🐶

“Dancing Dogs” Cedar Park, 2020

Tonight Mariko and I watched The Call of the Wild at Alamo Drafthouse. If you are a fan of CGI dogs, you’ll love it! Especially the pre-movie entertainment, which featured some Bollywood dance sequences featuring canines. Lots of fun!

I thought the main feature was pretty good, although the CGI wasn’t the most convincing. But I thought it was kind of nice to see more “expressive” dog faces. The story was average, but the scenery was awesome. Woof! 🐶

I hope you had a nice day!
