こんばんは!Hello, how’s it going?

The other day, I mentioned that we have plenty of musical instruments in our house, and one of them is a xylophone that Koa has been practicing with. This year Koa is in his school’s Honors Band, which is the top level! I have to admit I am pretty impressed with his playing, and also how much he practices… he’s really into it!

When Bay was in band, he played the flute, and that seemed simple in that he only played that one instrument (he also plays piano outside of school), whereas as a percussionist, Koa plays marimba, triangle, bells, rain-stick, and snare drum. Plus I think there are a couple more percussion instruments that I am forgetting. Granted, I know nothing about percussion, but it seems very interesting with lots of variation. And the percussion kids seem like a tight-knit group which is pretty cool!

One surprising thing is that Koa hasn’t asked for a drum kit. He played his friend’s dad’s kit before, and said he had a lot of fun so I was expecting him to be asking for a set, but so far it hasn’t happened. But I won’t be shocked if he all of a sudden says he wants a drum set for his birthday. I think it would be great if he formed a band with some of his friends!

He’s still young though, so he has plenty of time to explore his interests. Ah, to be young again! 😋

I hope you had a nice Tuesday, and we’ll see you tomorrow.

こんばんは!How’s it going?

Today I wasn’t feeling well and worked from home a bit and generally took it easy. My wife spent the weekend in Portland with her friend, and she returned today. It was so nice to see her although it was only a couple days she was away.

Anyways, today I got to hang out with the dog and cats… they are so funny. I haven’t spend the day with just them in a long time and now I see that they are getting along nicely. In the photo above, Lani is sharing the sofa with Yuzu. Before, she would growl at Yuzu and not let her lie in the same area as her. But now they are so nakayoshi (fond of each other). 🐶💛🐱

In fact, those two love to play together. They chase each other around and play fight, although sometimes it’s scary because Lani is much bigger than Yuzu, and she has her mouth open like she is going to snap. But Yuzu holds her own and punches Lani in the face with her paws, then they run around again. I figure that if Yuzu didn’t want to play, she can jump up to where Lani cannot go, or even just run upstairs.

It’s funny to see how the pets’ relationships have evolved. Very interesting tp me.

Hope you had a nice day, and rest well!

こんばんは!Hi, how’s it going?

Well, the weekend is almost over, and so is the career of the legendary Vin Scully. If you aren’t familiar with Vin, here’s a nice story from NPR:

Today was his final game broadcasting for the Dodgers. ⚾️ I posted the other day about him, so I don’t have a whole lot more to add but maybe just a few of the memories I had of growing up a Dodgers fan:

  • Enjoying a Carnation chocolate malt and using those little wooden spoons to try to carve a piece of that frozen treat
  • Grilled Dodger Dogs with spicy brown mustard and raw onions
  • Sitting in the bleachers under the hot sun, watching Dusty Baker and Lee Lacy in the outfield
  • Top-deck seats were $4, Reserved seats were $6
  • Taking the Stadium Way exit from the Harbor Freeway
  • The stadium organ, played by Helen Dell, and later Nancy Bea Hefley as we found our seats

I’ll end this post with some of the music of old Dodger Stadium, and the final sentence of his last broadcast:

“I have said enough for a lifetime, and for the last time, I wish you all a very pleasant good afternoon.” 🎙⚾️🎹🎵

Hello!

Do you know what today’s photo is of? Today Bay and I stopped by the musical instrument store to “pick” up some supplies. In our house, we’ve got a lot of musical instruments – 2 electric guitars, 2 bass guitars, 2 acoustic guitars, a baby grand piano, and electric piano, a flute, 3 ukuleles, and a xylophone. It’s nice to have a lot of music in the home! 🎵

Well, if you haven’t guessed it by now, the photo above is of some guitar picks. So colorful aren’t they.

Hope you had a great day!

こんばんは!How’s it going?

We made it to the weekend! Yay! The weather was so nice today… sunny with wispy clouds and cool enough that I could drive with the windows rolled down and hang my arm out the window in super-relax mode. It was great. 🌤

I was chatting with my friend about motorcycles 🏍 a bit and I started cleaning up my bike, making a mental list of things I need to do, such as replace some dash bulbs, re-check my maintenance supplies, and bleed the brakes among other things. It’s fun to work on the bike and I can save a bit of money too. 😀

Today’s photo is of the stickers on my bike, which are of the states I have ridden to. We live in the middle of Texas, which is a huge state, so to get to the border it takes something like 4 hours. And if you travel west to New Mexico, it will take about 8 hours. Isn’t that crazy?! 😖

But I’ve done it a couple of times and it was a lot of fun. I once rode east to Louisiana, then up to Arkansas and spent the night there, then rode the entire next day to Oklahoma and then back home to Austin. It was fun, but tiring as you can imagine. And my motorcycle isn’t the most comfortable for long-distance touring because it lacks wind protection and had a pretty strong vibration (because of its single-cylinder engine design). However, I have pretty good endurance for riding (and driving) so I don’t have a problem with it. I kind of get into the groove and can just keep going and going!

BTW, if you are interested at all in motorcycles, I have another blog where I post about rides, link to motorcycle videos, etc… it’s at motofuji.net.

I’m kind of getting excited about going for another long-distance ride, but now with two cats and a dog it will be a bit more difficult to do an overnighter. Oh well, day trips are fun too!

I hope you had a nice Friday!
