Our trip to Southern California has come to an end. It was so much fun visiting with family and friends, eating yummy food, and making more memories (and escaping the Arctic freeze that hit Texas), but it’s time to go home. Until next time!

Jamaican Dinner

My mom prepared her annual Jamaican feast for us tonight. We had jerk pork and chicken, escovich fish, stew peas, plantain, oxtail, rice and peas, callaloo, and run-down crab. It was amazing! The crab tasted great, but the curry smell will stay on my fingers for days. It’s worth it, though!

Plenty of Mahjong

My parents’ mahjong set is getting plenty of use this holiday season! It’s so fun playing with family. We have lots of silly rules and call the different tiles different names. For instance, the 8 bamboo tile is called “Crazy Rich” (from the movie Crazy Rich Asians), the one circles is called “Magic Carpet”, and the 9 characters is called “Fish Hook” (because of the shape of the kanji). Is it strange, or does every family have their own mahjong traditions? 😆
