こんばんは。How’s it going?

I recently visited my local library to renew my card and decided to browse the DVDs to see if there was anything good. I was in luck because I found a couple of movies that I have wanted to watch!

Fireworks / 打ち上げ花火、下から見るか? 横から見るか? has the same producer of the amazing Your Name which I loved, so I had high expectations for it. Unfortunately, the story was confusing and not very interesting. The animation was excellent, however, so it wasn’t difficult to keep watching. The little scenes of life around the sea-town were absolutely gorgeous. It was a shame though that the time-travel aspect was too difficult to follow otherwise it could have been great.

My rating for Fireworks: 6.5/10

On the other hand, A Silent Voice / 映画 聲の形 was excellent, with a compelling storyline, interesting characters with complex relationships and several thought-provoking messages. The animation was also good, although not as crisp or vibrant as Fireworks. But the film held my attention throughout the entire movie and I would love to see a sequel that continued the characters’ story arcs. I wonder if something is in the works…

My rating for A Silent Voice: 8.5/10

I hope you had a nice day!

Senior Awards Night

“Senior Award” Leander, 2019

Bay’s high school career rapidly comes to a close, with graduation looming just on the horizon. But before that, he took part in Senior Awards Night, where he received an award for his work in Visual Arts. It was pretty cool to hear the applause and cheers as he accepted the award. Another proud moment for Mariko and I for sure.

I hope you had a good day!

Time to Relax

“Relax Time” Austin, 2019

We visited our friends for a get-together, and we all tried out their massage chair. It’s a fancy Panasonic model, which is nicer than our generic Chinese massage chair, but I have to say it’s a little too gentle. It’s quite possible that I didn’t find the correct the option on the Panasonic chair, but I missed the deep rolling-ball massage that our chair has. On the plus side, the size of the chair seemed to fit smaller bodies better than ours.

Anyway, the Panasonic chair was super-relaxing, especially after a big meal of Texas barbecue and IPA. Oh, the good life! 😄

New Vegetable Planter

“New Planter” Cedar Park, 2019

こんばんは。How’s it going?

Each year we plant a few herbs and peppers in pots on our deck and this year, we have a new-fangled planter that we will try out. It’s a small self-watering planter, with space for multiple small veggies. It recommended between 6-8 pepper plants, which I think is too many, but we’ll see how it does with the seedlings we planted:

  • Jalapeño peppers
  • Serrano peppers
  • Ghost peppers
  • Sweet mint
  • Mini-tomatoes

We also left space to plant some Scotch Bonnet seeds that my mom is bringing over for us. It’s funny, but those seeds have found their way from Miami (and maybe Jamaica?), to California, and then here in Texas.

This planter was on sale, so we bought it for only about US $17, so we can’t go wrong. Last year, our Jalapeño plant grew like crazy but didn’t give us any fruit. 😞 Here’s hoping this one will bear plenty for us. The mix that the directions called for is potting mix, dolomite, and fertilizer. Could this be the secret combination?

I hope you had a good day!
