こんばんは。How are you today?

This evening Mariko prepared a delicious yakiniku (Korean BBQ) meal using her new grill pan which she received as a birthday present. Besides the main grill area, it has “pockets” on the side where you can put different goodies and keep them separate from the main grill. For tonight’s meal, we put cheese in one pocket, corn in another, and kimchee the the other two pockets. It worked great!

This was the first time I had cheese with yakiniku, and frankly, it was a little strange. I love cheese, especially melty, grilled cheese, but it felt a bit out of place with the regular yakiniku. Everyone else seemed to enjoy it quite a bit, though!

Before dinner we celebrated Margarita Day. I never knew there was such a day (and maybe this is the first one) but we might as well celebrate, right? Our basic margarita consists of 1 part lime juice, 1 part Cointreau, and 2 parts tequila. If we want it sweeter, we’ll add a bit of agave syrup. It was yummy as usual!

Our cats are so funny. Because they are sisters, they are very affectionate with each other. And they love to hang out and they have the same mannerisms. It’s really odd sometimes!

At the same time, they have their own distinct personalities and styles. The one at the bottom of the photo lies down with her legs splayed out in this way, while the other one never does that. Strange!

I hope you had a nice Tuesday.

こんばんは。Just a photo today. The sun was coming in the window making a cool shaft of light. I couldn’t capture it in the photo, but I did manage to get a nice sunburst. I think the cat thought the early evening light was nice too! 🐱

I hope you had a nice start of the week!

An Old Watch

So I’ve been getting back into my interest in watches again, ever since I got my Seiko 5 last week. I absolutely love that watch! It spurred my memory of another watch that I used to own back in high school – a Timex titanium watch. I don’t think I would have ever thrown that watch away, so I can only assume that it got left behind somewhere when I moved. Anyways, I was thinking how it was such a great-looking watch, so I Googled it and found a photo of the same model and… I guess it is not as nice as my memory led me to believe! 😮

It’s not a terrible-looking watch, but I guess what I find attractive in a watch has changed a bit. I prefer a design with clean edges, and the old watch has the indents around the edges which I am not fond of. Here’s a photo of my Seiko 5, which has a thinner bezel and cleaner look:

Oh well, I guess I don’t need to find the old Timex on Ebay to add to my collection, right? 😝

Hello! A new location of the local Austin Tex-Mex restaurant Chuy’s opened near our house, so we had an early dinner there today. I had the gigantic “Big As Yo’ Face” burrito in the photo above. It was so filling and delicious, but I am so stuffed that I will need to do some fasting this coming week! 😆

Chuy’s is a fun restaurant, with a lot of kitschy decor on the walls and ceilings. And there’s also a huge Elvis Presley theme going on! I’d say Chuy’s doesn’t have the fanciest food, but it’s consistently good and has a great atmosphere. If you ever have the chance to dine at one, I recommend it! Just be prepared to wait a bit for a table. 😝

Weekend Watching – Tokyo Tarareba Musume (東京タラレバ娘)

It’s been a while since Yoshitaka Yuriko has been on tv, but finally she’s back starring as Rinko Kamata in Tokyo Tareraba Musume (東京タラレバ娘). It’s a fun romantic comedy about three 30-year-old unmarried women and their relationship adventures. The story is just so-so, nothing new (so far), but the acting is good and there are some really funny scenes, where the character’s emotions are visualized with CGI effects, such as lightning coming down from the sky to vaporize the person who pissed Rinko off, or Rinko being shot with an arrow when she gets back-stabbed by a co-worker. The timing is great, and Yoshitaka Yuriko’s expressions are perfect.

As of episode 4, it’s a must-watch for me, but of course I tend to like these not-too-deep doramas. I love Japan so much, and I especially enjoy the scenes of the city. The izakaya that many of the scenes takes place in looks so great. My favorite type of restaurant/bar!

Please take a look at the teaser for the show below:

And lastly, I love the ending theme song by Perfume. It’s great! Enjoy:

“Tofu Bento” Austin, 2017

こんばんは。How was your Saturday?

Today I took some photos of bento that our friends’ restaurant will sell. 🍱 The photo above is a closeup of the tofu bento, but I think the photos that will be used are just the basic top-down angle. But, I took several closeups too just in case.

As a bonus for the work I did, I got to take the bento home, and we had it for lunch and dinner. おいしかった!😄

This afternoon I relaxed by watching a lot of TV… first I watched an episode of Yuki!!! On Ice, which is an anime that Emily Yoshida is discussing on her podcast, It’s Cool to Like Anime. I decided to give it a watch, but the first episode didn’t interest me too much. I’ll probably watch a couple more to see if it grows on me.

I also started watching a currently running Japanese dorama, Tokyo Tarareba Musume, which I will blog about in another post… more to come!
