Tonight I grilled some burgers, which felt like the perfect meal for Memorial Day. Earlier in the day, I went for a run around the neighborhood and caught the scent of meat grilling in several backyards. It was such a nice, summery atmosphere. Probably not as enjoyable if you’re vegan, I imagine.

I washed my car for the first time in forever. There were so many smashed bugs on the front after our California roadtrip! It was pretty gross, but now the Subaru looks good as new. I’m sure now that it’s clean, we’ll have some rain. You’re welcome, Texas!

We have three boys in their early twenties living at home, so cooking meals that actually fill them up has been a bit of a new challenge. Tonight’s yakiniku really hit the spot, though. Everyone was full and happy! It was absolutely delicious, and we packed in a ton of veggies too — bean sprouts, spinach, onion, eggplant, and jalapeños. We even added some kimchi for a boost of gut health!

This year, the city I live in put up a couple of signs near one of the large open spaces I often run past. It’s really encouraging to see that people care about the Monarch butterflies. I read a book last year about their migration, and it was both fascinating and a little disheartening. Still, with efforts like this protected field, I’m hopeful the migration will continue.
