Unstable Skies

Hurricane Ida is churning in the Gulf of Mexico and up here in Austin we are seeing the outer band of clouds. It makes for a lot of interesting cloud formations in the sky but I just hope there won’t be too much hurricane damage along the coast…

It’s been a while since I made a time-lapse video using my Fujifilm X-E4 but today was a great opportunity. Enjoy!

Fleeting Color

This was my view of the sky from my place at our dinner table. The light only lasted several seconds but luckily I had my Fujifilm X-E4 nearby to capture it. Half a minute later, the color had faded from the cloud and was replaced by a greyish blue, which was still lovely but not nearly as as dramatic. I was happy to view this change until I thought about all the moments like this that go unnoticed and then I felt a little sadness.

I really enjoyed the cloud-cover on today’s neighborhood run.

I’m also enjoying using the Simple RAW Camera app for my iPhone 12 Mini. I find that the iPhone’s regular photos are too processed for my taste, especially when I bring them into Lightroom for editing, but shooting RAW on the iPhone bypasses the iPhone “magic” and allows me to post-process the photos with greater control. For normal photos, I’ll still use the iPhone’s camera, but for cloud photos, RAW is the way to go.

FYI, the iPhone 12 Mini doesn’t have the option natively to enable RAW photos to be saved, so you have to use an app.

I hope you had a nice day!

Evening Cloudspotting

The clouds were beautiful this evening! A slow bicycle ride while cloudspotting is a wonderful way to spend an hour or two.

Sunset Ride

This evening I rested the running shoes and hopped on a bike for today’s exercise. But instead of going out with the intention of burning calories, I decided that I wanted to go for a leisurely ride. My friends and I used to “ride bikes” a lot when we were kids, and I wanted to recapture that feeling of not having a destination, and just enjoy the magic of balancing on two wheels.

So with that mindset, I was riding up on the sidewalk, hopping off curbs, and generally acting like a kid. It was so fun! I live in the suburbs and there isn’t much traffic on the neighborhood streets so I don’t have to follow the “rules of the road” so strictly.

That being said, I didn’t go full 10-year-old hooligan and slide out in the gutters or skid down people’s driveways. 😆
