こんばんは! Hello!

This evening Koa had a baseball game under cloudy skies. It has been raining off and on today but luckily the fields were dry enough that they could play. Last year, there were so many games canceled due to heavy rains and even the end-of-season tournament was called off. This season, just one practice was called off and we’re crossing our fingers that we can get all the games in!

Tonight’s photo is of Koa on the mound. I paired my Minolta 100-200 AF lens with the NEX-6 body using a cheap (~$15) adapter. There are some strange patterns going on in the background, but I am happy with the quality overall. I was going to put the lens on my A77 and have full auto-focus and metering, but decided to give this smaller combination a try just for fun. I am pleased with the result!

Unfortunately, the result of the game was a loss for Koa’s Rockies. But the tournament is this weekend and we’re hoping to do well! At least I know the kids will have fun… they almost always do!

Take care, and see you tomorrow.

こんばんは! Hi, how’s it going?

I am doing ok. I worked from home today, and tried to take it easy, but I ended up working hard as usual these days. It’s weird but I spend so much time planning and coordinating projects and sending emails these days that I don’t spend as much time in Illustrator or InDesign actually producing stuff. But it is interesting because it is still creative, and maybe because it’s also new and something I am not used to. A new experience!

Today’s photo is of my son (14) who is waiting for me to take him and his brother out to get a bite to eat. I thought this photo worked better in black and white, so I used Nik Silver Effects to convert it. In the original color version, there is a pink folder in the bottom left that was really distracting so the black and white simplifies this image so the focus is on Bay and Lani.

Well, I hope you had a nice Monday. I am going to get some rest… it’s early… only 9:30pm but I am so tired! 😴

Sleeping habits

I am awake at 5:30 am every morning. That’s my internal alarm clock. It’s a habit that has been formed because I need to wake up at that time in order to do my morning routine (shower, make coffee, empty dishwasher, make breakfast for kids, etc.). However, on Sundays when I don’t have that routine, I still wake up at 5:45. I simply cannot sleep in, even though I try every week. ⏰

The rest of the family has no problem sleeping late… as evidenced by the fact that they are still all upstairs in their beds and it is past 8:30. 😴

I used to wish I could join them, but now I am kind of glad that I can enjoy these few hours of quiet, with no morning duties (I still empty out the dishwasher and make coffee, although at a relaxed pace). It’s actually very nice, rising before the sun, and observing the transition from dark to light happening at a slow pace. 😄

Have a Good Friday everyone! 😆

こんばんは!Happy Friday everyone!

Tonight Koa had a baseball game… the second game of the season and the team did better. ⚾️ Unfortunately they lost, but they played well and Koa in particular had a strong performance defensively. He played center field all night and caught two fly balls! On the way to the game, he was telling me that he needs practice in the outfield because he has trouble judging where the ball will go. But tonight I think he got a lot of confidence. I am so proud of him.

Tomorrow he has another game, and I think he is scheduled to pitch. I hope he does well. I’m glad that he is having lots of fun. This season I don’t get stressed at all about if the team wins or loses, but I just want Koa to be proud of himself and to try hard. And of course have a good time! 😀

I hope you had a nice Friday and let’s have a fun weekend!

こんばんは!Hi, how’s it going? Did you have a good Valentines Day?

I mentioned that I was looking forward to sleeping late today, but I forgot that I had to wake up early in order to buy Valentines flowers for my wife. So I was at the store at 7 am but didn’t find a good flower arrangement, so instead I bought roses and baby’s breath and created my own arrangement. It’s the first time in my life that I ever had to do that, but thankfully there are some helpful videos on YouTube that show how to create a decent-looking flower arrangement. I think it turned out pretty good! Sorry, no photos today, but perhaps tomorrow I will post one of my creation.

Happily, my wife liked the flowers. 😃 The rest of the day was spent cleaning the house and relaxing, and then after dinner and chocolate fondue (our Valentines tradition), we watched a movie called “The Walk”. It is about the wire walker who tight-rope walked between the Twin Towers. I thought the movie was enjoyable, but not spectacular. The special effects (recreating the views of the towers and of New York) were pretty amazing, however. That was really cool!

Well, the weekend is just about over, but let’s do our best this week!

こんばんは!Hi everyone, how are you today?

Our family had a pretty difficult day today because late last night, our cat, Miki, passed away. She was 16-years-old, which is apparently the equivalent of 80 human years! We loved her very much and will miss her a lot. She was with us when we brought both our sons home from the hospital, so she has seen them grow from newborns! And my sons have spent all their lives with Miki in the family so it must be hard for them. I’ll miss Miki a lot because she used to come snuggle next to me every night and act as a little heater. I’m sad, but also grateful that we got to share 16 years with her. She was an amazing member of the family.

I think I will turn in for the evening. I hope you have a great Wednesday.

Fall Baseball

Baseball games always cause me to have a lot of stress, so I don’t really like to watch. But I am there at my son’s games to offer him my support and encouragement! And just look at that hit!

BTW, here’s a fantastic article about how to be a good “sports parent”. Valuable stuff!
