Mariko and I made a trip down to South Austin to visit The Great Outdoors Garden Center. It is an excellent nursery! First, their COVID-19 precautions are good, all the employees are masked up, there’s sanitizer available, and they limit the number of people on-site at one time. That being said, the selection of plants is wonderful, with plenty of native species, and they even have a greenhouse full of houseplants. It’s probably the best selection of houseplants I’ve ever seen, although I admit to not going to many nurseries. They also have a large selection of wind chimes, which sounded so soothing and beautiful that we ended up buying a small one.

We don’t get out much because of the pandemic, but The Great Outdoors Garden Center was a relatively safe place to visit and shop. Besides the wind chime, we bought several small plants and succulents. Exciting!

Cycling POV

I was inspired by Two Wheel Cruise and Vietnamese Girl Wandering the World and wore my Victure action camera while I went on my evening bicycle ride. My camera doesn’t have stabilization, so it’s pretty shaky. If you are prone to motion-sickness like I am, I don’t think you should watch. 🤢 But it was fun to make and edit. Maybe sometime in the future I will get a GoPro like the youtubers and can make better videos. Until then, I’ll stick with still images.

Birds of North America

Today’s photo is of a bird (a female house sparrow perhaps?) that has been frequenting the north-facing window. We’re not sure why it likes to come by, but the cats are very interested!

Speaking of birds, I binge-watched all the episodes of Birds of North America. This series hosted by Jason Ward is excellent! Each episode is interesting and the topics are surprisingly varied. Definitely worth watching!

Perseid Meteor Shower

I tried my hand at capturing some of the meteors of this year’s Perseid Meteor Shower by setting up my X100T’s intervalometer and letting it shoot for a few hours, then checking the results for shooting stars. The five-hour span resulted in seven shooting stars, which I combined into the composite photo above. It’s pretty neat how almost all of them originate from the same point, isn’t it? I’m happy with the results, but next year I will keep the camera going all night which will require that I wake up twice in the middle of the night to reset the camera, unless I upgrade to the latest X100, which can shoot all night all by itself. (my current camera has a 999 exposure limit)

Since I had a lot of images, I created a time-lapse video. It’s not optimal for viewing shooting stars, but I think it’s fun to watch anyways. 😀
