こんばんは! Hi, how’s it going?

We’ve been having some dreary weather here the past few days. As you can see from the photo above it was a wet drive into the office this morning, and unfortunately Koa’s baseball game was rained out this evening. So, I took him to the batting cages so he could keep sharp.

Today I did a few photography-related activities. First, at work I bought a new 50 mm F/1.8 lens for our company camera. 📷 My friend recommended this new nifty-fifty and I used it to take an employee head-shot this afternoon, which turned out pretty good. I’m very pleased with the lens!

Secondly, I tried something kind of fun, which was to smear Vaseline on a filter to simulate a blurry glamour-type photo. I was really trying to go for a dreamy, abstract type of image but I don’t think the Vaseline distorted the sharpness as much as I would have liked. Well, I did get a couple of fun kitty photos, as you can see below:

And the third thing I did was to make a few prints using our Canon inkjet printer. I’ve never been able to figure out how to print photos… my whole life, things like edges, margins, and general printer errors have left a sour taste in my mouth when it came to home printing. This evening started out with more of the same… but after a couple failed attempts, I think I am getting closer to figuring out how the Lightroom print module works. I’ve been trying to make a print with a nice 1 cm white border around it, and I was able to tweak the settings a bit to get fairly close. With minimal trimming with our paper-cutter, the results were quite nice!

I’ll post a photo of the prints later, but I think I am satisfied for now… pics of the pics will have to wait. 😛

Well, that’s it for today. Have a great Tuesday!

こんばんは! How was your Sunday? Mine was good, but I’m not feeling 100%…

As you can see in today’s photo, we have a new massage chair… it’s very heavy and not the best looking bit of furniture, but the massage it gives is great. However, moving it into the house was a pain (it took all four of us to move) and maybe I over-exerted myself. So, my back feels a little sore. Or, it could the that I spent too long in the massage chair!

At any rate, I don’t feel so great so I’ll be going to bed earlier than normal, if I can.

Tomorrow is the start of the work-week… lots to do!

Busy day

こんばんは! Hello, how was your Saturday?

Our was really good! This morning, Koa had another baseball game and they won! ⚾️ The final score was 12-2. The game was a make-up for an earlier one that was canceled due to rain… and it is the final game of the regular season. The final tournament starts Monday evening and should run the whole week. Lots of fun! The team Koa is on has a record of 3-10, so they weren’t very good, but they learned a lot and had fun every game. A successful season for sure.

This afternoon, Bay had his piano recital. 🎹 He played really well! I am so proud of him… now he is third from final in the recital line-up, which means he is one of the senior students. I am amazed that he has progressed so much… but really, he has been playing for several years now and practices every day… I guess it seems like he just started! Time flies so quickly and the kids are growing faster than I realize.

Today’s photo is of Bay and I after the recital. We went out for sushi dinner and I asked Mariko to take this black and white photo of us. It’s rare that we are dressed up nicely, so this is a special photo. 😊

Take care, and I hope you have a nice Sunday!

こんばんは! Hello, did you have a nice Friday the 13th?

Mine was good, with a lot of work finished, but what was fun was watching Koa play baseball in the evening. He hit a rocket to center field, but it was caught. Still, that was his best-hit ball ever and he was fired up!

Anyways, the weekend is here and it should be a busy one, with another baseball game, Japanese school, and a piano recital. Should be fun!

Pain in the neck

こんばんは! Hello, how are you doing?

I’m doing okay, but my neck is really sore. It’s actually sore in my upper back, but it’s because I slept in a bad position last night. Earlier today, I could turn my head to the left without any pain, but I couldn’t turn it to the right as easily. But it wasn’t so terrible until I got home.

So now I am lying in bed, trying to not put any pressure on it. Hopefully tomorrow it will feel better! It’s not an awful amount of pain, but like a dull headache, hours of the mild pain can really take its toll…

Anyways, today’s photo is of a really cool dish which is in the shape of an onigiri, or Japanese rice ball. When you pour shoyu into the rectangular depression, it looks like nori (seaweed) and it really looks like onigiri! My wife made these at her pottery studio. Pretty cool, huh?

Take care and talk again tomorrow!

Half-over

こんばんは!Hi, how’s it going?

The week is half-over! Has it been going ok? My week has been good, especially at work. I feel energized in the new office and I have started a couple new projects, and continued a couple old ones that had fallen by the wayside. It’s kind of exhausting, though. It takes a lot of concentration and that can be fatiguing. Every night this week I feel so tired… but it’s a good kind of tired. Like how you feel good after exercising because you know the effort is important and healthy. 💪

I haven’t taken many cloud photos lately, but this afternoon when I arrived home, the sun was peeking through and it looked really cool. So I couldn’t resist! ☁️ 📷 I bumped up the clarity a bit using a graduated filter in Lightroom… I think it came out pretty good!

Below is a photo of tonight’s dinner – Hawaiian-style char-siu chicken. It was so yummy! We got to use our new grill for the first time, too. I’m happy to report that it works nicely and is so easy to use. A successful inaugural effort. 😊

こんばんは! Hello, how’s it going?

Today’s photo is of my desk space at work. Our HR department was cleaning up their supply stock and they had these little white clips that attach to fabric walls, so I grabbed four of them. They are perfect for my Instax prints! The clips are really handy because this particular fabric partition (they call it a “modesty partition”!) does not have the material inside that allows push-pins to stick in them, so these clips look better than just plain tape.

For this photo, I used the Velvia film simulation, and I think the highlights and shadows were both bumped up +1. So, the color palette printout in the photo is a bit more saturated than it should be. But I like seeing it extra-vivid! 🌈

Have a good evening!
