“Speed Twin with Bell” Austin, 2025

Today I went to look at motorcycles with my friend and I spotted what might be my future bike, or at least the same model. This one only had 200 miles on the odometer and a few add-ons, so it would be a great find for someone. I prefer a different livery for the Triumph Speed Twin 900, so I wasn’t too tempted to buy it. What really caught my eye, though, was a little bell attached to the bottom of the frame.

It turns out this is called a gremlin bell and it’s meant to keep away mischievous gremlins that cause mechanical trouble. The fun part is that you’re not supposed to buy one for yourself. It has to be given to you by someone who cares about you. It’s like a protective charm with a built-in story.

If you’re looking for a thoughtful gift for a rider in your life, there are some great options like the Guardian Bell, the Angel Rider Bell, or even plain styles. What a neat tradition!

I had the day off today, so Piplup and I went for a long ride along our usual route on Brushy Creek Regional Trail. The cooler morning air made it extra nice before the heat set in. On the way back, I spotted a sign that made me laugh – I have to imagine the person who wrote it was chuckling too!

I noticed the last ice cream sitting in the freezer and couldn’t resist. My son swore it was the best ice cream he’s ever had, so I had to see what the fuss was about. It was a mango pop, and I have to admit—it was really tasty, though maybe not “best ever” level.

A little later, I found out Mariko had told the boys that last ice cream was actually reserved for her. Busted! Guess I’ll be on dessert probation for a while.

Two quick snaps of today’s sky. We had a little rain earlier, but it cleared up into a pleasant, cooler evening. I’ll enjoy it while it lasts because the forecast says we’ll be back up to 100°F before long!
