New Running Shoes

A few months ago I bought some new running shoes to replace my current shoes. I actually didn’t need the new ones right away, but I had a 20%-off coupon to use and the shoes were in stock so I decided to buy them and just wait until my current shoes start breaking down.

Well, that time is nearing and I’ve been getting reminders from Strava about it:

I think I can wear my beloved blue On Running shoes for a month or so, but I’ll start to transition to the new black pair, maybe alternating between the two. BTW, my On Cloud shoes are the best running shoes I’ve ever owned. I hope this new updated model is at least as good as the old!

Shorter Running Shorts

I bought some new running shorts, which are shorter (5″) than the shorts I usually wear running. Those two pairs are actually soccer shorts that I bought for $9 each at Ross or Marshall’s several years ago. This new pair of shorts from Target is very comfy, and the shorter length is more comfortable for running, especially in the blazing summer heat.

But wow, the parts of my thighs that are newly exposed are blinding, aren’t they? Hopefully after a few more daytime workouts it won’t be so shocking. 😅

Evening Running

As the summer days heat up, my running times have shifted to later in the day to take advantage of the cooler temperatures. One big perk of this shift is the chance to see amazing sunset and twilight skies. It helps that my iPhone 12 Mini has a decent camera! When I see something worth taking a photo of, I can quickly take it out of my running belt, take my snapshots, and put it back all in a matter of a few seconds.

Running in the evening does have one disadvantage however: bugs! I have to keep my route away from the smaller paths and trails that have a lot of flying insects because it’s no fun to inhale those little creatures. ☹ But perhaps a mask is an option? I’ll have to give that a go.

Running to Torrance High

Today’s running destination was Torrance High School, where I attended from 1982-1986. It’s still pretty much unchanged from when I went there, except now there’s a fence encircling the campus. It’s really sad that we live in a society where gun violence is so pervasive that we have to do this. The 80s seem like such an innocent time, when we just had to worry about nuclear war. I’ll never forget the worry I felt as I waited with other parents outside my son’s school while the police swept the area for a gunman… I hate guns.

Anyways, while I was running through the main student parking lot at THS, I saw the band and color guard truck. It looked so tiny! I live in Texas now, where high school marching band is a BIG deal and the band trucks are sized accordingly: 18-wheelers, with professional full-blown graphics. It’s pretty amazing and I am still in awe of the band programs here. Seeing the small THS truck was a huge contrast, but I’m glad that at least they offer band and color guard.

Later that day, we took a drive up to Palos Verdes to check out the views and enjoy the beautiful weather. Lovely!
