“Fuchico on the Temaki” Cedar Park, 2019
It’s a temaki sushi dinner evening! I prefer nigiri sushi, but temaki sushi is wonderful too. I mean, nigiri is a 10, and temaki hand roll sushi is a 9… so both are great. 😀
I hope you had a nice day!

こんばんは。How’s it going?
We arrived at the Port of Miami early this morning and were back at my cousin’s house relaxing by 11 am. It was a bit sad to leave the ship since it meant our vacation was coming to a close, but the disembarkation was easy and also we still had a birthday celebration to attend.
So what was on the menu for the birthday? Sushi!!! ❤️🍣 Not only that, but my niece made a cake and lychee ice cream for her dad. Super-yummy!
And if that wasn’t enough, that evening we went out for drinks at Monty’s Raw Bar and Cuban food at La Carreta. My Cuban Sampler dinner was huge and I didn’t come close to finishing it. 😲 But it was delicious and so much fun to hang out with my family. It’s the best!
I hope you had a good day!

For his birthday dinner, Bay requested salmon and ikura donburi, which was a nice surprise. I thought he would want to go out for sushi at a restaurant, but a birthday dinner at home has a special feel to it. I think it made Mariko happy that he requested a home-made meal. ☺

This evening Mariko and I enjoyed a delicious omakase-style meal at Uroko. All the sushi was excellent, but the highlight for me was the saba (mackerel) which is my all-time favorite. It’s not the fanciest fish (in fact it’s one of the cheaper types) but I just love the oily richness of saba. Chef Masa described the way he prepared the saba which enhanced the experience even more!
Full disclosure, Uroko is owned by good friends of ours. It’s nice to have a circle of foodies, but maybe not so good for the waistline. 😆
I hope you had a good day!

Tonight we went to the soft opening of our friends’ new restaurant, Uroko. The restaurant has three distinct things: omakase dinner on the weekends, temaki hand roll sushi for lunch, and sushi classes on weekday evenings. The soft opening was omakase, and the sushi was wonderful! There were a total of 12 dishes served, and I enjoyed them all, but my favorite was the otoro – so buttery!
I actually help with their websites, and sometimes photography too, and tonight I took a lot of photos for the new website. It was actually somewhat difficult because I don’t have lighting equipment (nor the skill to actually use them) so the photos weren’t the greatest. Still, I think most of them came out ok. You can see a few more photos at the main website, or the reservation site.
If you are in Austin and want a great sushi experience, check out Uroko!
