“Tamales” Cedar Park, 2020
Our freezer is full of various tamales acquired around Christmas. Even after tonight’s yummy dinner, we still have enough for a couple more. The gift that keeps on giving. 😄

こんばんは。How’s it going?
This morning I did a bit of hiking at Inks Lake State Park, which is about an hour away from our house. There’s a nice group of trails that meander around the hills just south of the lake, and also several primitive campsites that I wanted to check out. I also wanted to try my hand at making a hiking video using my Fujifilm X100T and tripod. I think it turned out pretty good for a first attempt! Please check it out:
On a side note, I noticed that there was a nice representation of Subarus at the trail-head. In fact, the only other car when I arrived was this brand-new Forester. And when I left, a much older Forester was parked next to me. It’s fun to be part of the Subaru family!

I hope you had a great day!

Tonight I camped out on the backyard deck to do some gear testing. I received a summer sleeping bag and wanted to see if I could be comfortable in it at 40°F, or what layers I would need to add. If I can take the Aegismax sleeping bag instead of the Marmot Trestles 15, then it would save a few pounds of weight as well as a ton of space in the pack.
Well, I can say that I was comfortable, if a tiny bit chilly, wearing socks, thin thermal leggings, thin thermal top, REI 650 down jacket, and beanie. I put on the jacket because I know that will always be in my backpack, summer or winter, and I didn’t think just the thermal top would be enough. I do think 40°F is the lower limit for this bag, though. And if it is windy, maybe 45°F is the lowest I would take it out with. But I am happy with the results. Now I know!
I also set up my tripod and camera to do a bit of time-lapse. It turns out that the clouds ruined it, but I managed to get about 1,000 exposures, so I’m not to displeased. Check out the video below:

Tonight Mariko and I watched The Call of the Wild at Alamo Drafthouse. If you are a fan of CGI dogs, you’ll love it! Especially the pre-movie entertainment, which featured some Bollywood dance sequences featuring canines. Lots of fun!
I thought the main feature was pretty good, although the CGI wasn’t the most convincing. But I thought it was kind of nice to see more “expressive” dog faces. The story was average, but the scenery was awesome. Woof! 🐶
I hope you had a nice day!

Today I took care of my early voting as usual. There was no line at the voting location (just primaries today) so I was in and out in no time. The new voting machines were way better, and now they spit out a paper ballot so you can double-check your choices before putting them into the big ballot box machine that looks like a Xerox copier. So that’s something…
