こんばんは。How’s it going?

I’m amazed that Mariko can whip up a yummy meal out of nowhere. She only had a few minutes before going to work, and I went to pick up Bay from school, but when I returned, the fixings for a delicious donburi (rice bowl) were cooked and waiting for us. Bay cooked some rice and I put the yummy fish (sardines), soy sauce mixture, and green onion over it and voila! So delicious…

After the kids ate, I made my donburi with an egg added and took the photo above.

I’m not able to think creatively about preparing food, but Mariko is so talented that she seems to work her magic all the time. 😀 We’re truly lucky.

こんばんは。Today my wife and I took a drive out to the hill country to take photos of the Texas wildflowers. There were lots by the sides of the highways, but we didn’t find the perfect meadow with a big variety of flowers. Still, it was a fun outing and we happened to snap a few photos. I made for a nice Easter Sunday. 😄

Below is a photo of the famous Bluebonnet. I am actually not so fond of bluebonnets, though. I prefer the other wildflowers that appear at the same time. I think it’s because I feel that bluebonnets look so alien when I see them close up. From a distance, the blue/purple color from a patch of bluebonnets is really beautiful though!

Don’t Be Mr. Grumpy

I have a Google Keep note in which I save quotes and other snippets. It’s called “Thoughts to Live By” and I often look back at the things I’ve collected there. One of the items, which isn’t a quote, but something I try to keep in mind is “Don’t be Mr. Grumpy”.

I don’t like when people are in bad moods and they lash out (even gently) with their anger and the whole atmosphere gets a bit toxic. It’s not a good thing. But I try to keep in mind that the person must be having a bad day, or something recently happened to put them in this state of mind.

And when I think of myself getting grumpy, just remembering that note helps me step outside of myself and reassess what’s going on. It might not be the cure for my being upset, but I think it definitely makes things better. And over the years, I think I am a much less grumpy person than before! 😄
