Don’t Forget the Naan

Last week Mariko made an amazing Indian curry, but there were two problems. Firstly, there wasn’t enough (or maybe we ate too much?), and secondly, we didn’t have any naan to accompany the curry. Both kids mentioned the fact that we didn’t have naan, so I think Mariko needed to rectify this by cooking the same curry again this week, but also making naan. And not only was there just basic naan (which is awesome), but she also made cheese-naan, which was off-the-charts delicious!

And as a side note, I think she made a larger amount of curry, but it also didn’t last long. 😄

I hope you had a nice day!

Hiroshima-Style Okonomiyaki

Tonight we enjoyed a homemade Hiroshima-style Okonomiyaki. The yakisoba and cabbage give this style of okonomiyaki a different texture than Osaka-style, where the cabbage is mixed with batter. Another thing that makes Hiroshima-style different is the addition of a fried egg… yum! We also had a special sauce which was thinner than the type we have on Osaka-style, but it tasted great. I admit that I prefer Osaka-style, but it’s kind of like comparing a 5-star food to a 4.8-star food – you can’t go wrong with either. 😆

I hope you had a good day!

Loco Moco

Tonight’s dinner: Loco Moco. This Hawaiian dish usually has a thicker brown gravy on top, but Mariko decided to make a thinner Japanese-style hamburg-steak sauce. I heard it was delicious… We had a leftover hamburger from yesterday’s barbecue, so I finished that up. Not complaining! (Maybe a little) 😆

Hope you had a nice day!

I’m seeing many more photos on Instagram and Twitter of people’s homemade bread since the stay-at-home lifestyle has begun, and it’s awesome! Of course, I have to post some of Mariko’s bread too since it’s the best. This one is a sourdough loaf (my favorite), but she also made malasadas today for the first time. They were delicious!

It’s a good thing that I love to eat sandwiches because we have so much delicious bread… I just can’t get enough of it. Yay for bakers! 🍞 🥐
