Tonight we enjoyed a simple sliced pork yakiniku. It was yummy and very easy to make! All the ingredients are readily available, and the dipping sauce for the meat is just sesame oil and salt. We prefer to have larger leaf lettuce, but we just used what we had left in the fridge, and sliced half an onion and two jalapeños. Kimchee and mozzarella cheese round out the meal. Simple and delicious! 😀
I went for a maintenance ride today with Kiki. The maintenance refers to keeping my riding skills maintained and sharp. 😀 It’s important for me to keep the motorcycling skills up since it is a dangerous activity, so riding around the neighborhood, with plenty of slow turns and stop signs is a good way to practice.
When I first began riding, I’d be nervous whenever I had to come to a full stop. Since I cannot flat-foot both feet (my inseam is maybe only 28″?), I’d have to tip-toe. And also, getting the timing right of putting down my feet as soon as I stopped moving forward was a challenge. But after a bit of practice, I learned to just slide my butt off to the left side, and put down my left foot only. I can flat-foot on that side, and it is very stable and comfortable. And I have gotten the timing right for stopping. Basically, I come to a stop kind of forcefully at the end, instead of a gentle slow-down. Now coming to a full stop is almost second nature, although I do still have to give it a little bit of thought, especially to make sure I don’t put my foot down on any slippery oily stuff.
It was a nice little ride, but I do need to adjust my clutch lever. I had moved it up since my motocross boots needed extra room, but I don’t have those boots anymore so I can lower the lever to make it easier and faster to shift. I actually missed a couple shifts today because I was tired from a long run in the morning, and that reminded me that I need to adjust that lever!
If you have a few minutes, why not come along for the ride? 😄

This afternoon I went for a ride with Sophie, my 1972 Peugeot UJ-10 bicycle. I haven’t ridden the Peugeot in a while so it was fun to go for a spin on the vintage road bike.
I like to record my bicycle rides with my GoPro and post to YouTube, but decided to leave those at home and just ride without the extra burden of the video camera. You would think that filming with the GoPro would be simply hitting the record button and just let it run, right? But actually, it causes me to think a lot about it when I am riding. For instance, “is the angle still okay? had the battery overheated and shut the camera down? do I need to change batteries?”. If GoPro cameras were reliable, then I’d have less stress about it, but they are pretty flaky.
Anyways, the only camera I had with me today was my iPhone, so I was just focused on the ride and seeing the sights. It was so fun! The Peugeot is a lot different than my other bicycles – it’s faster and a little more challenging to ride, especially over any gravel or dirt. I mostly kept to the hard surfaces, but there are a couple places where riding over gravel is necessary, and it got a little sketchy! Still, I enjoyed the whole ride.

I’ve noticed furikake has gained in popularity recently. So when Mariko added it to her bagels, I was very interested! And wow, it tastes so good. I like it much better than everything bagels.

I use a Fujifilm X-series camera for most of the photos on this site and my Instagram. Why not pick one up for yourself?
