こんばんは!Hello, how’s it going?

Today’s photo is of my favorite shoes and boots: Converse Chuck Taylor high-tops, and Doc Marten’s 8-eye boots.

I’ve had a pair of the sneakers pretty much continuously since high school, going through so many colors, both low and high-top versions. I’ve had white, red, blue, and black versions, and right now I have a pair of black, but I’m ready for a pair or red again.

I’ve had a few pairs of Docs over the years, black, greasy red, and shoes. Then for about 10 years, I was without a pair. Last year I bought my latest pair (black) and now I feel complete once again. 😀

It’s nice and comforting to believe that I will have a pair of both of these for as long as I live. After 30+ years, I guess these two have “finally” grown on me. 😜

I hope you have a nice evening!

こんばんは!How’s it going?

This weekend was filled with birthdays! First, my 15-year-old went to a birthday sleepover at his friend’s house, then today my 12-year-old went to his friend’s party downtown, and tonight I went to my friend’s 43rd birthday celebration. Doesn’t the cake look amazing? It tasted as good as it looked. 🎂

Besides the cake and great food, we played “Cornhole” which is a bean bag toss game (my gift) and then watched the first episode of the comedy series “Get Smart”. The show was so corny and funny! What a great evening. 😄

こんばんは!How’s it going?

Today was a schizophrenic Saturday, in that I worked a few hours this morning 😩, but then had a totally relaxing afternoon ☺️.

On the way home from work, I stopped at In-N-Out Burger and picked up some food 🍔 for Koa and I. Normally we get Double-doubles or just a cheeseburger, but today we both got 3×3’s, which are burgers with three patties and three slices of cheese. I thought we should try that once in our lives.

As you can see from the photo, they were pretty massive. Aside from having more meat and cheese, it pretty much was the same as their regular offerings, but now that we’ve tried the 3×3, it’s back to our normal-sized burgers.

After lunch, Koa went to the park to meet his friends and I had the rest of the afternoon to do as I pleased which meant putting Star Wars: The Force Awakens on with the surround-sound system cranked way up. It was great! I have to say, Episode 8 is my favorite of the Star Wars movies.

My favorite part started when Rey and Finn are running to the Quad Jumper and she says “that one is garbage!” referring to the Millenium Falcon. My heart soared when the Falcon came into view the first time, and then the ensuing dogfight was just amazing! I thought that dogfight was the best of all the movies so far, and it was just 3 ships! There was so much more action that even the epic battle at the beginning of Episode 3, which had hundreds of ships and seemed to go on forever. Bigger is not always better where spaceship battles are concerned.

That dogfight at the beginning of Episode 8 was just one of several moments when my heart was pounding hard, and there were a couple times when I even teared up a bit too… so I know Episode 8 is my favorite. It was an emotional thrill-ride for me.

I hope you had nice Saturday!

Day 3

Hi all!

Today’s photo is of our downstairs bathroom. Can you see anything that stands out? Yes, my family cannot seem to put the new toilet paper rolls on the holder, nor put the extra rolls in their place. I don’t understand why. But I just have to laugh. I love them anyways!

So today is the third day of the election and reactions have been pretty strong, especially from the blue side. I’ve been thinking about it a lot too, and I have some thoughts I’d like to share.

I’m not very political, and I don’t blindly identify with a particular party. My views, though, tend to match with the Democrats on social issues, but I have a general distrust of most politicians. (Except Al Franken.) However, this year’s election to me was all about personal character and not about policies. I cannot understand how one could vote for someone who is a racist, misogynistic, homophobic, xenophobic, lying bully. I wouldn’t be able to accept such a person as a teacher or school principal, let alone the highest office in the land. I feel like by voting for this kind of person, you are validating that kind of behavior. Already we are seeing more incidents of blatant racism around the country, and even in our classrooms! It’s sad… and frightening. It would infuriate me if my kids had to deal with that! Thankfully, there haven’t been any incidents at their schools.

I heard San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich the other day, and he very succinctly sums up what I feel. Please have a listen.

Alright, that’s enough for now. I hope I won’t feel the need to mention the election anymore, but I’m sure the coming presidency will be filled with issues that will be worth talking about.

Take care!

こんばんは!How’s it going?

It’s incredible how quickly these weeks fly by! Already it’s a third of the way through November but it seems like October just began. It’s good and bad as far as I’m concerned… Good because vacation is coming up soon, but bad because I’m running out of time to finish all my 2016 projects at work. 😟

But let’s focus on the good thing… vacation! We’re planning on spending another Thanksgiving on the road. Last year we took a road trip along Route 66 to New Mexico and this year we are heading out to Big Bend. We’ve lived in Texas for 18 years now, but have never been to the National Park which is located in the western section of the state. It should be fun and I’m hoping to get some nice photos. 📷😄

We are also visiting the McDonald observatory again, and should be in Fort Davis at Thanksgiving. I wonder if we’ll be able to find a nice turkey dinner there! Even if we don’t, we’ll still be able to enjoy looking at the night sky at the Star Party. I’m really looking forward to that! 🌠

Today’s photo is of a container of fancy sweets that Mariko bought. I usually don’t eat sugary things, but I’ll definitely have to give this a try.

I hope you had a nice Thursday!
