Shorter Running Shorts

I bought some new running shorts, which are shorter (5″) than the shorts I usually wear running. Those two pairs are actually soccer shorts that I bought for $9 each at Ross or Marshall’s several years ago. This new pair of shorts from Target is very comfy, and the shorter length is more comfortable for running, especially in the blazing summer heat.

But wow, the parts of my thighs that are newly exposed are blinding, aren’t they? Hopefully after a few more daytime workouts it won’t be so shocking. 😅

Bicycle Work

“White Saddle” Cedar Park, 2021

Look! A new seat for Sophie. This saddle is from Retrospec, and I have a black one on Mango. I find it very comfortable, but unfortunately they don’t make them anymore. So when I stumbled across this white specimen, I ordered it right away. I think it goes well with the white cables, and would pair nicely with white handlebar tape. But I am going to try some black cloth tape and see how it looks. If the mismatch is too much to take, then I can even move my black saddle to Sophie, but I think the white looks fun and very 80s. 🤣

FYI, I am waiting on a new, wider set of handlebars for Sophie. Wider will be more comfy, but I’m worried that she’s becoming less vintage… So I’m having second thoughts and might just keep with the original narrow bars. We’ll see!

“Rossa” Cedar Park, 2021

As for Rossa, I’ve ordered some new shoes (tires) for her and set her up with the frame bag and Sophie’s old seat. I think the Bianchi is looking good! Hopefully by this weekend she’ll have her new shoes and we can go for a spin.

You know, the white seat might look good on Rossa too since she has white cables and the large white Bianchi graphics. Maybe some cheap white handlebar grips and white pedals would look fun?

So. Many. Possibilities!

Quick Urgent Care Visit

High school marching band season is starting up for the new school year and Koa needed to get a physical exam. We’ve gone to the same Urgent Care facility for the past few years and it has always been quick and inexpensive. There was a more of a wait before seeing the doctor, but once we got in, the examination took only a few minutes. Yay!

One sad thing that we saw: a man came in who was diagnosed with COVID-19. He said it has been a week since he tested positive and his condition hadn’t improved. As he waited in the corner with his head down, you could see that he was fatigued and not in good condition. What a stark reminder that people are still suffering here in Texas.

Please get vaccinated!

Today we had two families over for an in-person pizza lesson. Usually, Mariko teaches via Zoom but today it was a special visit with friends. Lots of fun! And of course, the pizza was yummy. 😀🍕

Fujifilm Recipes and Shooting JPG

“Ukes” Cedar Park, 2021

Today I watched a video about Fujifilm film simulation recipes, and spent some time reproducing some.

My Fujifilm X-E4 can connect to Fujifilm X Raw Studio and save unlimited custom recipes which makes it easy to try out different looks on the computer and then transfer any of them to the camera. Since I don’t shoot RAW anymore, having these film presets to create the JPGs in-camera is really neat and fun. It’s like having a roll of a particular film (and/or processing technique) in the camera.

Some will say to just shoot RAW and then apply the recipes in post. I understand the logic (I’ve done that for years) but I now prefer keeping things light and simple. That means culling my photo library aggressively and shooting JPG for a small library size and greater compatibility for sharing.

A bit more about culling the photo library. I shoot daily and it’s important to delete images until I have only 5 or 6 chosen JPG files per day in my Lightroom catalog. My nightmare (and how I used to live) is to have 20 RAW files sitting there, ready for processing or deleting. That kind of clutter not only sat on the hard drive, but also sat in the back of my mind. RAW files offer the option unlimited possibilities, but in my mind, these possibilities are just open-ended questions of “is this better?” or “should I go back and re-edit using these other settings?”. A JPEG gives me a kind of closure to each image I’ve taken. It’s more or less final and I can move on.

All that being said, the snapshots in this post are just test shots and not all that good nor interesting, but I like them anyways.
