🎶 Have a great Thursday!
A Few Things

“Fierce” Cedar Park, 2017
こんばんは。How’s it going?
Just a few things to say today:
- Both Koa and Mariko were sick this morning, but by the afternoon they both seemed to be feeling better. 😅
- For the past few days, I’ve had an odd thing happen to my sense of smell. It happens about once every year, but it’s where I constantly smell one scent, and it usually starts as a burnt coffee smell, but then after a couple days shifts over to a more savory smell. Apparently, it’s not uncommon, but when it first happened a few years ago I was worried. Now it’s just interesting to me. 😕
- The new leader of the country is causing me a lot of stress. The administration’s views and actions run counter to my values, so the news distracts me all the time. 😟
Anyways, that is what is going on today in my life. Oh, I also went to the eye doctor today for my annual checkup, and my vision hasn’t changed enough to warrant new glasses for distance viewing, but I did get a prescription for close-up “reading” glasses. 👓 Mariko says I am getting old… and of course she’s right! 😁
I hope you had a nice Wednesday. Enjoy the photo of Yuzu! 🐱

Sick

“Sick Boy” Leander, 2017
こんばんは。How are you this evening?
Our 12-year-old son is not feeling well today, with general tiredness and a sore throat. When I picked him up from school, he immediately reclined the seat and fell asleep. He got a good nap because we had to pick up his brother so he slept for about 1/2 an hour in the car as you can see in the photo above. I know he was out cold because when we got home, he said, “We’re here already? That was fast!” And we actually got home a little later than usual.
Our family is generally pretty healthy, rarely getting the flu or other common illnesses, although Koa and Mariko suffer from allergies quite a bit. And Bay never gets sick! It’s really weird but amazing.
I’m hoping Koa feels better after a good night’s rest. I’m sure he’ll bounce back in no time!
Stay well, everyone.

Sukiyaki Surprise

“Sukiyaki Dinner” Cedar Park, 2017
こんばんは。How’s it going tonight?
This evening when I picked up my kids from school, they both said they were really hungry and asked me what was for dinner. I replied that I didn’t know, but that I saw that Mariko had set the rice cooker so I figured we’d be having Japanese food tonight. And when we got home, the house smelled so good!
In the kitchen, there was a nice pan of sukiyaki (すき焼き) on the stove bubbling and ready to eat. Usually, sukiyaki is made with beef, but tonight’s was a chicken sukiyaki, with tofu, greens, konyaku noodles, and udon noodles. And we had farm-fresh egg to dip it in. It was delicious! The combination of chicken and egg reminded me of my favorite food, oyakodon (親子丼).
🐓🍳❤️ うれしかった
I hope you had a nice day.

Slow Sunday

“Warming Up” Cedar Park, 2017
こんばんは。How’s it going?
Today was a slow day spent at home. We cleaned up a bit (Mariko was super busy decluttering) and rearranged furniture downstairs. Since that was the most exciting thing that happened, well… here are a couple photos of our pets! 😆
