“Storm Break” Cedar Park, 2021

daily slice-of-life photo blog of a Gen-X dad

I originally intended to just ride my bicycle down to my sunset spot for a photo and then back home, but it was such a pleasant evening that I rode on past my house and kept going towards the library, and what would have been a 2 km ride turned into an 11 km evening cruise around the neighborhood.

My first stop was at my go-to sunset location (see top photo), where I chatted with a man who was settled in to try to see the Mercury-Venus Conjunction. The clouds were not cooperating, but at least he got to enjoy the cool evening and brilliant colors of the sunset.

After that I cruised around by our city library area and took a few more sunset photos and then on one bit of trail, I noticed there were fireflies blinking all around. It was so cool! I tried to video the fireflies with my phone, but it really doesn’t capture the magic.
I’m so glad I decided to go for the longer ride this evening. There were lots of neat things to see. ☺

We had another stormy day today but the sky lightened up just after sunset so Mango and I went to the nearby park to see if there were any interesting clouds. They were pretty good, in my opinion!

We only went out for a few minutes to take the photos because it was still sprinkling a little bit and there was thunder rumbling as well so I thought it best not to be out on the bicycle too long. 😁

A storm rolled though the area this afternoon, with a severe weather watch in effect for a couple of hours. We had heavy rain, no hail, and an amazing showing by the storm clouds! These photos are highly stylized in Adobe Lightroom, but I really like them. They look like the undersides of ocean waves, don’t they?

I hope you had a nice day! またね~

Pretty clouds make for a fun run, but of course I have to stop every few minutes to take photos. 😅 These are cirrus uncinus clouds, btw!

The clouds looked ominous this evening, but luckily the severe weather will be to our south and when the storm reaches us after midnight, it will most likely just be rain.
I did spot this particularly evil-looking cloud, though:

Stay dry, everyone! ☔

I was able to rush out on my bicycle to my favorite sunset spot to catch the last bit of pink and orange in the clouds. 30 seconds after I snapped this photo, the clouds were all grey. It’s amazing how quickly the colors can fade…
