こんばんは。How’s it going?

Mariko recently bought some matsutake mushrooms and we enjoyed them in a yummy rice dish. Matsutake mushrooms are pretty expensive, but Mariko got a great deal on them and the quality (I’m not the best judge on that) seemed pretty good. I mean, I thought the rice was delicious, so hey, it was at least “good-enough” quality, right? 😊

Mariko also grilled saba (mackerel), shishito peppers, and prepared a simple salad. A perfect Japanese home-style meal to have with the mushroom rice.

Oyakodon Dinner

Mariko had to work tonight, but she left some oyakodon half prepped for Koa and I on the stove. All I had to do was to add three mildly beaten eggs to the already cooked chicken in broth and cook to the desired done-ness before putting it over a bowl of rice, which was in the cooker and timed to be finished at 6:30 pm. Yay! By the way, oyakodon is my favorite food. It’s just a simple comfort food, but I just love it. Oyakodon and okonomiyaki are probably tied for the top spot… I could live off of these two dishes for the rest of my life. (and sushi, curry, burgers, pizza, burritos, ramen, Jamaican patties. etc… 😆)

Dinner tonight was Hamburg Steak. It’s a popular dish in Japan, and Mariko made a sweet teriyaki-style sauce for it which made it even more delicious. A small salad, miso soup (made with homemade miso), and fluffy rice make it a perfect meal. 😌

I hope you had a nice day!

こんばんは。How’s it going?

This evening we made yakitori on the grill. Was yummy! Mariko said the meat was a little overcooked because we kept it on too long to get a nice char, so next time we’ll up the flame a bit so the grill marks arrive earlier.

Besides the chicken, we added onion, and since we didn’t have any green onion in the fridge, we added jalapeño peppers for a bit of color. I guess these were Texas-style yakitori skewers. 😆

Oh, and another thing… we didn’t soak the skewers in water beforehand, so they burned pretty badly. Oh well, next time!

Hope you had a nice day.
