New Route With the New Shoes

My nice, new, and clean running shoes are now muddy and properly broken in because today’s run took me on the local school’s cross-country track. It’s a fun route, and one I’ve run before, but there’s a shortcut that I didn’t take before which would take me to the adjacent neighborhood. This little part of the city has a small airfield, plenty of deer, and relaxed country lanes. What a relaxing place to run and bicycle.

Here are a few more photos from today, and also the Strava route:

Catching up With the Olympics

Today I watched a bunch of Olympics on my laptop as I worked. First up was a replay of the karate kata event which was super cool! I love it! Next up was the women’s skateboard park event which was awesome. The finals were so exciting, with Japan taking gold and silver.

Finally, I watched the women’s marathon while making (and eating dinner). Long distance runners are incredible. It was really cool to watch the American runner win the bronze medal. USA!

The Olympics are so inspiring. Of course I love the long running races, but the skateboarding makes me want to hop on my board and hit the skatepark!

Sunset Ride

This evening I rested the running shoes and hopped on a bike for today’s exercise. But instead of going out with the intention of burning calories, I decided that I wanted to go for a leisurely ride. My friends and I used to “ride bikes” a lot when we were kids, and I wanted to recapture that feeling of not having a destination, and just enjoy the magic of balancing on two wheels.

So with that mindset, I was riding up on the sidewalk, hopping off curbs, and generally acting like a kid. It was so fun! I live in the suburbs and there isn’t much traffic on the neighborhood streets so I don’t have to follow the “rules of the road” so strictly.

That being said, I didn’t go full 10-year-old hooligan and slide out in the gutters or skid down people’s driveways. 😆
