As the temperature outside starts to drop, it’s time to turn up the heat inside our stomachs! This hot pot was made using the Little Sheep brand hot pot mix, and included tofu, chicken, fish meatballs mushrooms, noodles, and greens. I ate so much and got so warm! We don’t have Chinese hot pot often, but I think we need to change that. 🌶🔥

New Handlebars for Mango

I fitted my bike (Mango) with some new handlebars today. The UPANBIKE “Urban Road Bike Retro Handlebar Moustache Shape Extra Wide Dutch M Shape” (Wow, what a nice SEO name) handlebars were very easy to install with my shifters and brake levers sliding right on with no problem. I was worried that I might have to replace my cables with longer ones, but it turns out that the original length works fine.

I also put some SAPLIZE ergonomic grips on, and they are very comfy. These use collars to tighten them to the bars so it will be easy to remove them when I want to switch back to the butterfly bars.

I was only able to go for a short ride this afternoon with the new setup, but it felt great! I also love the look of these handlebars. They have a classic, simple, and attractive shape. And having a bike that you think looks nice makes you want to ride it even more.

In the photos, you can see the extension bar for adding accessories. I actually use it to keep my phone in position. But I think I’ll remove it to keep the handlebars looking a little cleaner. It would be a shame to ruin the sweet lines of the new bars, right? 😄 I can always keep my phone in the trunk bag to record the rides with Strava. Having the phone up front is nice when I need to look at the map like when I went on my gravel ride a few months ago, but it’s not necessary for riding around the neighborhood.

******************

Today this thing called the “Super Bowl” happened. We didn’t watch it. We got rid of our regular tv channels this year, so that means no network tv for us. It was the first season since I was a kid that I didn’t see a single second of live pro football. But still, Google insists on showing football news in its sports section. 🤷‍♂️

Tonight’s pizzas: Spicy Marinated Korean Pork Belly and Loaded Baked Potato. Both were yummy, but of course I preferred the spicy one! 😊

Slice of Life Blogging

I like this post from artist and author Austin Kleon about how today’s mundane and boring items might become interesting in the future. It’s kind of how I’ve approached my blog for a while now. There’s nothing earth-shattering or click-worthy in my slice-of-life posts, but they may be of interest in the future, specifically to my descendants that I will never know.

Several years ago, I realized that I don’t know anything about my great grandparents besides their names, and it made sad. I would love to know how they lived… even reading some of their journal pages would be super-interesting to me! So perhaps one of my descendants would enjoy reading about our lives from the early 21st century.

What you think is boring now may be interesting in the future

In the spirit of this slice-of-life mindset, here’s a little video I made of my morning routine… putting away the dishes and making coffee in the company of our cat, Anko:

I hope you have a great day!
