こんばんは! Hello, how are you?

Today was a hot and humid Sunday, and we stayed in most of the day. However, Mariko and I did a little yardwork – planting some goya seedlings that we received from our friends. It was crazy because there were so many mosquitoes buzzing around… I was covered up in long pants, a jacket and hat, and I still got bit a few times. Ack!

Most of the rest of the day was spent lazily doing housework and then we watched some baseball, drank margaritas, ate homemade enchiladas, and watched even more baseball. Our Dodgers were locked in a 5-5 tie into the 17th inning, until they finally won. What a marathon game! ⚾️

It was a nice weekend for us, and the kids are happy because they have tomorrow off from school as well. Too bad I have to work…

Today’s photo is of the clouds this afternoon. ☁️ I took it when I went to the Mexican market to buy some limes and Central American-style sour cream for our enchiladas. Once again I used the black & white + yellow filter, with +2 shadows. In Lightroom, I bumped up the contrast even more, especially on the left side of the histogram, and applied a strong vignette. I forgot to add any grain, however… woops! 😛

I hope you had a good day!

New book

こんばんは! Happy Saturday!

Today I finally took my car in for a safety inspection so I can get a current registration sticker. Happily my 12-year-old Honda Odyssey passed inspection and I should be receiving the sticker in a few days. But, I am about 3 months overdue… woops! I’m terrible. 🚐

Later on in the day I went to the library to re-borrow the book I was reading, but while I was sitting there book-in-hand, I realized that the book just wasn’t for me and I’d look for another one. I was about a third of the way through On the Map, but I just wasn’t feeling it anymore. Maybe someday I will want to read it again, but for now I’m looking to dive into a Fantasy epic… so I picked up Furies of Calderon by Jim Butcher. It looked interesting, and after 12 pages, I’m still reading so it can’t be too bad, right? 😛

Today’s first picture is from the library of course, and the second photo is one I took at Hopdoddy Burger Bar, where we enjoyed a nice dinner. 🍔

I decided I wanted to only take black and white photos during June, but I couldn’t wait, so I jumped right in today with a couple monochrome images, using the black and white + yellow filter film simulation on my Fujifilm X100T. I have shadows at +2, and highlights at 0 for these. I think I like the look of them!

こんばんは! Hello, how are you doing?

Today’s photo is of my favorite shoes (well, the type of shoe) – Converse Chuck Taylor Hi-tops. I’ve pretty much always had a pair or two since high school, my favorite colors being, black, red, and white. I’ve also owned several lo-top Chucks as well.

What I love about them is that they are super comfortable, although when you first get them, they are kind of weird feeling. Every time I get a new pair, I wonder how anyone could have played basketball in these things. I mean, the soles are so flat and the high tops are not strong enough for any kind of ankle support… I think they are just high so that the shoes wouldn’t come off if someone stepped on them during a game. But, after you wear them for a few weeks, they feel so good!

Anyways, the past few days I have been experimenting with taking more photos, but not spending as much time composing the image, or wondering if the image is interesting enough to post. These photos are simply for fun, and mainly to keep for myself, although I might share them too! For these snapshots, I switch my camera to shoot the smallest dimension, in square format. I also have a custom setting in my camera that uses Velvia film simulation with +2 to both highlights and shadows. I wish the custom setting would automatically change the size and aspect ratio, but that’s not too big a deal since I can do it easily with the Q menu. The photos are only about 2 megabytes in size. It’s wonderfully liberating to just snap a few photos of everyday things and not worry about making a nice image, nor taking up huge amounts of space on my hard drive. It’s just fun!

Here are a couple of these types of photos. Nothing amazing, but nice memories and slices of life. In the first one, I just liked the way the evening sun was coming in through the kitchen window. The second one is… well, it’s fun to take pictures of pets, isn’t it?

Hello! I am very tired and cannot post my daily photo… ok dang… here it is:

But I can’t really write much about it, except to say that this was an art project for our new office space… more on this later. I am so tired! No A-Z challenge post today. Will finish Y and Z this weekend!

But it was a fantastic day!

こんばんは!

Hi! Tonight Koa had a late baseball game (8pm – 9:30pm). The sky was a bit stormy but luckily we didn’t get any rain and the kids got to enjoy their evening contest. As you can see from the photo, the colors in the sky as the sun went down were pretty awesome… the photo was pretty much SOOC (straight out of camera) with a tiny bit of sharpening and clarity applied, but I didn’t touch the vibrance or saturation, and I think the camera was on standard Provia film simulation. At any rate, we enjoyed about 10 minutes of this sky before it got dark. Pretty cool, huh?

Koa’s team lost but Koa had a good game, getting a hit, an RBI, scoring a run, and having three outs at second base… one on a blistering line-drive. The late games are kind of interesting because when we leave, it’s usually almost 10pm and there aren’t a lot of cars left in the parking lot. It’s a completely different feeling compared to the ending of the early games when there are a lot of other people arriving and the parking lot is still quite full. I like the late games! 😄

Have a great evening! おやすみなさい!

こんばんは! It’s Friday!

I’m not sure when it happened, but Friday nights changed from a time to celebrate and go out for dinner and drinks, to a time to just relax at home. It’s kind of a different celebration I guess… 😊

But I enjoy it nonetheless! Spending the evening reading a good book… it’s very cliché, right? But I look forward to it! 📔

Today’s photo is of our black and white cat, Anko. Kittens play so much, but they tire out easily. It’s part of their charm. 🐱

Time to read! おやすみなさい!

こんばんは! Hello, how’s it going?

I am doing well… my workload is getting back to normal and the stress level is going down. It feels great! I feel like I am the plane in today’s photo… finally getting over the storm and moving on. ✈️

As I sit here listening to music, I realize that I don’t have much to write about tonight. And I am not gonna worry about thinking up something… just going to cut it short right here and take it easy. 😊

Have a wonderful evening!
