I spent most of the day binge-watching the 2017 Chinese television drama version of The Legend of the Condor Heroes. There are 52 episodes in total, and I think I made it up to episode 12 or so. It’s so good!

I am delighted that the characters match (more or less) the image I had when I was reading the books. Even the settings are how I thought they should look. And I am pleased that my favorite character, Cyclone Mei Chaofeng, is so sinister and deadly.

The kung fu moves are great as well – way more complex than I was expecting from a television series. Very impressive.

So far, the plot is sticking close to the books, but they did expand upon things a little bit (in good ways). I just hope that the villains stay villains. There are some signs that one of them might actually become good (please no!!!) but we’ll see.

For now, I am enjoying this series a lot!

Reading

“Reading Time” Cedar Park, 2022

This evening I finished A Heart Divided, which is book four of The Legends of Condor Heroes series. I was actually standing at the kitchen island, reading and drinking shochu, because if I lie down or sit down to read, I’ll almost immediately fall asleep not matter how good or exciting the book is. And A Heart Divided is excellent. It’s a series that I look forward to reading every night!

I’m a bit sad that I am finished, but also excited because I can now start watching the 2017 Chinese tv series! I wanted to finish the books first, and keep my imagination’s versions of the characters untainted by actors. 😀 It’ll be interesting to see how close the casting of the tv series comes to my mind’s eye.

Chili Days

Mariko is out of town for a few days, so I made a big pot of chili for Koa and I to survive on. This batch turned out pretty good! Our go-to way of eating it is to pour it over white rice, then add cheese, some sour cream, and hot sauce.

In today’s photo, you might notice that I also added an egg. I just needed some diced jalapeños to put the meal over the top. Oh well. It was still excellent. 😄

Good Weather to Ride Bicycles

“Bicycle Sign” Cedar Park, 2022

It’s the beginning of May, and here in Central Texas, we’re having perfect riding weather. Today was sunny, with nice clouds, and a soft breeze. So of course I had to go ride my bicycle at lunchtime.

Sophie and I rode to the hike & bike trail and did our normal paved loop (with a tiny bit of gravel). We stopped at the skatepark to take a photo under the “No Bicycles” sign. When I would come here with my boys, there were often BMX bikers using the park alongside skateboarders, scooters, and the occasional inline skater. Everything seemed fine. But I guess something must have happened to prompt the sign being put up. Oh well.

Anyway, if you have time, please watch the video I made, or save it to your bookmarks and ride along with us on your stationary bike!
